I was skeptical about a dish too because of the weather and my experiences as a kid.. but its really only cut out twice when the weather was super bad. The picture quality is miles ahead of cable in BR. I run a 120" projector so this is important for me. Cable looked like standard def trash and for some reason during LSU games it would often stutter.

My DTV plus internet cost 120 a month with a good amount of channels, sports package, and Sunday ticket(for a year).

Once the two years is up we'll see if Dish can beat their price.. im not loyal to DTV.. just worked out that way this time around.

Also helps I have att cellphone since you get unlimited data with DTV service.

The DTV AT&T sign up deal gives me a much better product than cutting the cord and at a cheaper price. Unacceptable?

I'm in the same boat, I got a ridiculous bundle deal from att/dtv in February.

About the same. Dish seems to do a (little better) with rain reception. Dish is cheaper and the channel layout seems better planned.

Slight edge to DISH.

Thats whats sad as well, been with them over 10 years and pay more than a new customer for the same deal. No love for loyalty it seems.

We should be getting rebates every few years with them or something.

I have had both. Started with Directv. Went to Dish after 2 year contract was up and it was great. I got the Tailgater portable satellite and receiver at the time of the switch. Paid around $450 for satellite and receiver. Did not have to pay on Dish bill for 3 months. Had 3 months of credit due to that. After the first year the bill went up ridiculous. They do have better technology implanted into their equipment ( Netflix, SlingTV, Alexa) but their prices for their tiers is crap. I have the full entertainment package and all channels with Directv and if I was to get that with Dish I would be paying $70 more a month. When I wanted to cut the movie channels out with Dish they said I had to schedule a tech to come out to switch equipment. Their customer service is not as good as Directv. It all depends on what you want and like in satellite company. If it comes down to pricing, Directv had better prices on packages. If it comes to equipment, Dish is better.

Have to consider internet as well since you need much higher speeds than you would otherwise need
.

Especially as you are probably about to have to pay an additional fee to actually get to those speeds on the streaming sites.

The Dish layout

Has taken a serious step back with their new design after the update.

My father in law has directtv and I have always hated directs layout but the new dish one is just as bad.

It's not inferior at alll. But I can tell you the prices can get out of hand as well.

I have had Dish for 17 years now. No complaints. I just got the Hopper3, still figuring it out, but I have no complaints about Dish. And my monthly cost went down when I upgraded.

Well if you just sit around and continue to accept paying the same price what do you expect? They literally told me when I signed up how easy they are to negotiate with. Lol. All you have to do is call up and threaten to cancel and they'll start throwing stuff at you. I actually have to do it today as my 2-year contract is coming up as well as my 2-year contract on internet through Verizon. Basically just going to tell them I'm either packaging thru you guys or Verizon. And if I don't get the ticket for free this year I'm out b/c it's the only reason I signed up in the first place.

My only question is for DTV subscribers with the AT&T internet as well, how is the internet compared to others?

I have never had much exposure to satellite TV, but a relative recently got Dish for a family cottage. I was pleasantly surprised whipping around channels and thought it was really easy to use.

Ever since ATT bought DIRECTV they have been less willing to negotiate. I'm about to drop them.

That's why I left and went to PS Vue but PS Vue just upped their prices.

I had DTV since 1993. I remembering at the time if I wanted their service I had to go to Dillard's, yes Dillard's, and actually pay $400 for the equipment. I then had to install the equipment myself. Wasn't hard to do but my point is I've been with DTV since their beginning. About a year ago I switched to dish and I couldn't be happier. The equipment is so much better. I got tired of the bill creeping up and DTV's laggy equipment. Nothing more frustrating than trying to change the channel and it takes 2 or 3 seconds before the channel would change.

Dish even has a remote finder built in to their Hopper 3 box and Joeys. With three kids that thing comes in handy. I've used that feature numerous times already. Not to mention I have a voice recognizing remote. Works great if you can't remember a channel number or looking for a movie, show, or actor. Noticed they added Alexa support also. Something else to note, you can record 16 shows at one time. I had a few times with DTV where I had to cancel a recording. Probably will never have that problem again.

It would take a lot for me to go back to DTV. Dish seems to try and stay on the cutting edge of technology when it comes to their equipment. That is obviously important to me.

I do miss Sunday Ticket though. Wish Dish could somehow manage to get a share of that. Otherwise I'm extremely happy with what Dish has provided so far.

I can count on one hand in the 5 years I've had DTV that the weather completely killed the signal. At worse a couple of times a year I've had to switch to SD channels for 15 minutes during a really bad storm.
