All it really proves is you can memorize all kinds of bullshite.
That value in it is that it's sufficiently difficult to obtain that it proves some level of intellect and commitment to accomplishing something.

Another field. I'm a coordinator for a heli company in the GOM. No upward mobility at this time thanks to low oil prices.

Au contraire, mon frère.
I just threw up a little in my mouth.

Many companies can require it on a resume. I think mine does as a standard.
As for reality, tons of shitty PMs have the certification so it doesn't fully speak to your ability and most realize that.

Most jobs are some form of project management....
Doing PMO work is boring as it gets in my opinion. The real value unlock is when you are a SME that connects cross functional stakeholders and project manages as well. In that role, you drive alignment and you are still delivering value-added content/decisions to the discussion.

As with most certifications.

It's a money scam that any idiot can get, and a participation trophy for those who managed to get promoted without a college degree.
That being said, I just got mine because the company paid for it and a lot of positions call it out in the requirements. I have an MBA and a CM degree

I'm still fairly new to my industry but the few that had PMP stuck to their email signatures were definitely less than impressive

I've refused to get any sort of certifications like this. I went to college for 8 years, if I need to know something I buy a damn book and figure it out.

Must be pretty important considering how many assholes include it with their name on LinkedIn

Man pick a career and run with it.

Agreed, its a money scam that some organization put together, threw in a marketing campaign and sold it to tons of people. Go get real letters behind you name like MBA, PE, or PhD. Don't forget the most valuable thing...experience.

I have been wondering this myself. I work in software and work has paid for all the class time i needed. I even have the study material.
My attitude right now is that... it couldnt hurt. Especially given my degree isnt Project Management related but its clearly where my skills are.

That's what I'm trying to do now.
They have me cross-trained in two departments and I am the only person who is capable of doing both roles.
From everything I have read this is what defines 'value' and makes you the guy they will promote one day.
We'll see I guess
