How fastidious are you about seemingly unsealed groceries?

I'm no germaphobe, but I do have a phobia about food poisoning and tampering. Plus, I know there are some nasty and malevolent degenerates in this world. If I buy a food product that causes me so much as a question, I begrudgingly throw it out. In recent memory, I've had to throw out mayo missing the safety foil peel, mustard missing the plastic lid seal, a jar of pickles that didn't pop upon opening, and a water bottle that felt like it opened just a little too easily and without a visible tamper band. The worst is when I can't remember if I removed the tamper mechanism myself or not.

And is it me, or does this seem to be occuring more often now with food products?

When you buy a bunch of grapes, there are always a few empty stems where people snuck a few at the store. People with dirty, disgusting hands that have been doing unspeakable things.

Have you ever noticed?

You sound exactly like me. I’ve had food poisoning before. Never again if I can help it.

Yeah, but for some reason that doesn't freak me out as much as a food item missing a safety seal that you know should've been there. Maybe because grapes are meant to be left out in the open (although the recent banana roach spray dude makes you think twice now.)

Things like the mayo and mustard have lids that can unscrew at the store to check if the seals are in place. However, there are some products with the clear plastic seal that is applied to the lid and part of the container and those should be in place or I'm not buying them.

I do make it a practice to wash any produce that I get from the store that doesn't need to be peeled to use like bell peppers, squash, tomatoes, etc. You never know who has been handling them from being picked at the farm to being picked over at the store.

The vast majority of this board needs to Google the definition of this word.

I always inspect my ice cream. I normally only buy Blue Bell which doesn;t have a seal. But, I recall a tick tock a few years back of folks licking them.

I saw a homeless guy in Albertson's at Airline and Old Hammond eating out of the bulk bins of trail mix and dried fruits. He was sticking his hand in the bins, grabbing handfuls, and chowing down. I informed the manager on the way out. I notice they don't have those bins at that store anymore.

I don't buy anything (food or otherwise) if the original packaging has been disturbed. Yes, I will sift through all the things on the shelf looking for the seal still in tact.

That’s common sense.
