How far away from a fire hydrant do you live?

I've always lived in a subdivision,so there's always a fire hydrant within a few hundred feet or so from my house.
But, I see some rural homes that are seemingly miles from a fire hydrant.
Does that concern those of you who do live a ways away from one?

They make these big red things that carry water.

If all the water in the trucks are used and the fire is still going, I just as soon it finish burning to the ground.

Did you know that where there is a blue reflector on the road, there’s a hydrant?

I installed dry hydrants in ponds on my property. Otherwise it would be close to 20 miles to the nearest hydrant I would guess.

Did you know the hydrant cap tops are color coded by GPM output? Below 500 gal per minute are red. Now, you'll be looking for hydrants all week trying to spot a green or blue.

insurance company used to tell us if we got a fire hydrant installed near our home, we could get our insurance reduced. Finally got one across the street. Guess what didn't happen.

I’ve taken fire safety so seriously that I now have a hydrant in every bedroom of my house.

No hydrant, but a full fledged fire house about .75/mile away by road, .25/mile as the crow flies. Insurance is much cheaper here than the other side of the neighborhood, which is fricked up IMO

When I was up on the rules houses must be within 1200' to be covered but ALL houses in the fire district mist be within that distance in order for insurance companies to cover them. This is in La. but 10 years ago. Individual houses need not apply.

Dry hydrants work but don't count as hydrants toward insurance ratings.

They can be of use when tanker shuttles are used as the water supply.

Correct. I installed them to fight wild fires, not house fires so much. As good as our FD is, they are not getting here in time to save a house.

I've got a pond, pump, and generator to power that pump. I'm good to go if there's a fire and the volunteer fire department is too drunk to get rolling. You millennials and your need to always depend on someone else to save you.
