Simple principal description:
Microphone:
Sound waves from your voice or musical instrument hit a a paper diaphragm. It vibrates at the same frequency as your voice. There are crystals in nature that give off electrical charges when pressure is applied. If the paper diaphragm is connected to the crystal the electrical pulses are given off at the same frequency and amplitude as your voice. The output from the crystal is routed via wire through an amplifier to a speaker.

Wait until you start pondering how millions of video, data, and audio datasets are converted to a single OPTICAL signal traversing a glass fiber traversing thousands of miles, only to be perfectly reproduced to users all over the world, sometimes in less than 1 second.

I can't call myself a "believer", per se, but I can tell you that I've often wondered how science went from, "oh, this is what a virus is" in 1890ish to, "here's TV, fiber optic communications, nuclear technology, the internet, supersonic speed, space travel, etc." in like 60-70 years.
I understand technology and science advance at an ever-increasing rate but, christ, we took one hell of an unprecedented jump in the early to mid 20th century.

War, and profits.. In the quest to develop ever more effective and devastating ways to annihilate one another, and the technology that required, we inadvertently discovered all kinds of new tech on the way. Communication got faster and smaller, and as we were able to manipulate things on a tinier and tinier scale, the capabilities of such tech grew exponentially.
Operation Paperclip brought new minds to serve the military-Industrial complex with near unlimited resources. No idea was too far fetched. Those strings of research brought all sorts of new inventions that trickled down to the average consumer.
Then the digitization of information brought a new economic incentive to the private sector. No longer was it simply ways to kill each other, but ways to tap into newfound wealth of a boom economy and drive consumerism.
Then the increasing access of the internet across all stratas of society meant the old gatekeepers were obsolete. People were raised in a tech world that was ever growing and connected people across he globe. Distances vanished. Fewer and fewer barriers existed, and there was always money to be made in order to penetrate deeper into our lives.
In the past, people were scared of being spied on.
Now we pay to deliver ever more information to the spies.
Teeming masses begging for an escape from reality. The pain of existence dulled by the opiate glow of a handheld supercomputer.
And we’ll either snowball into a digital oblivion, or the reset button will hit, and in the collapsing chaos the old order will return

My dad was a career man at South Central, BellSouth. He passed it 2006. One of the last conversations we had, we were discussing the technology and growth. 2006 was before the iPhone.
He was dealing a lot with fiber around then. He explained to me the splicing process and the precise fusion of melting the glass fibers and the machines that did it. The calculations and automated splicing blew everyone's mind at the company back then He was convinced it came from somewhere else. Aliens is right.

A wire moving in a magnetic field has a current generated in it. A coil of wire is even more efficient. If the wire is moved by sound vibrations, the current varies as the sound waves did. The current travels down the wire.
There can be a second coil of wire attached to a paper cone. The coil is near another magnet. The varying current in the wire in the nagnetic field causes a force on the wire, making it move. The wire moves the cone, and it reproduces the original sound.
You can connect just two small speakers like this, and one can act as a microphone anc the other as a speaker.

Disney had touch screen computers at Epcot back in the 70s. I think mice invented a lot of the stuff we use today. Goddamn mutant genius mice.
