If I'm grilling, I call it grilling. If I'm smoking, I call it smoking. I may say I'm throwing something on the BBQ pit, but I never say I'm bbqing.

Grilling. Barbecue is something entirely different.

If I'm barbecuing, I say "barbecuing." If I'm grilling, I say "grilling." This isn't difficult.

Grilling unless for whatever reason that isn't appropriate.

Sorry that you hate it. Am glad you have so little concerns in life that this phrase causes you concern.

Grilling in would seem wrong to me.

Grilling = cooking direct, higher temps, any fuel
BBQ = cooking indirect, lower temps, using coal
Smoking = BBQ + wood

Except for the fact that you are in the 5% that ever says "barbecuing". Which is the point of the thread.......

You don't BBQ a steak

You don't grill ribs

That should tell you all you need to know.

I just lite the pit and throw meat on. If it needs BBQ sauce then it gets it, if not then it doesn't.

When the meat is done the corn and onions get put on.

As long as the beer is cold and the music is on you can call it whatever you want.

It's all BBQ to me. If someone doesn't like, they can just get over it. Using BBQ to describe grilling is like using coke to describe soda.
