As per a thread several months ago @ "when was the last time you had a good cry?".....she is really the only element in my life that I have cried like a baby about.

Sorry to hear that. My GF and I watch Intervention all the time, and it tears families apart. There is literally nothing you can do, except refusing to enable the behaviors. They often need professional help.

Apparently Adderall is pretty addictive as well. My buddy was on it for a while and admits that he started to feel like he always needed to have it. Cut himself off (my other friends used to try to get him to give them some). I've never taken it.

Buys and sells to fund habit

buys low sells high, but takes a lot of risks (needless to say)..I really appreciate all the great info and again, this will all come down this weekend..I am not naïve enough to think all will be well after this, but doing nothing is leading to bad things for sure...life is tough, but Im not complaining...thanks again for all the good education...

The Doctor prescribes them 4 5mg Percocets a day. That's 20 mg. You say they take 40 to 60 mg a day.

Sounds like they've got a problem. That's just as expensive as a Coke habit.

In AL the Pharmacies and Doctors are all connected through the DEA data base. No Doctor Shopping here.

Likewise, Louisiana has a Prescription Monitoring Program that is supposed to prevent doctor shopping.

I don't know. The word "addiction" has been watered down to include anything a person does despite knowing it's bad for them. Which includes eating sugar, fast food, watching TV etc

Currently in school and recognizing real problems with I may/do have with addiction.

It sounds horrible and whether I get admonished or get encouragement about my next point just want to say, it is a no-win question and answer.

Fraternities today are crumbling because of outside perception that are wrong. I love my brothers and the strong women that make the bond even stronger. Drugs infiltrate and are a part of every society, but its just really difficult in the early beginnings to admit it and then change, and not feel the worst feelings, you as a man and what you are instilled to believe in.

But hopefully with my great support system I keep myself from these stories you keep bringing up.

If they are selling shite to fund the habit they are an addict, however; by the sound of it, it could be worse. I've know people who lost jobs, broken up their family, etc because they were addicted to pain pills. This was several years ago, but I knew of a certain person who would get their monthly prescription filled, they would go through it in less than a week so they were buying it "on the street".. $60 a pill.

In other words, if they went through a prescription in less than a week. Just imagine how many they had to buy for the next 3 weeks until they could refill prescription, at $60 a pop.

people who are addicted never see the affect it has on those around them and "think" they can act "normal" around others.

Listen to me pain pill addiction is the absolute worse. It does more irreversible damage that any other addiction. I have no idea why. Seen it first hand with several friends. Back in the day we had a pretty big group of friends 15+ that probably that did everything under the sun that didn't involve needles. Those that got addicted to the pain pills can't even hold a conversation anymore. burnt toast. And the one that OD was because of the pills too

I agree, it is asinine. Imagine someone in your family getting a DUI because they smoked a joint 3 weeks ago.

Another "When they"... Is when they call the cops to report someone broke into their truck and stole their pain meds, so they could take the police report to the doctor to try and get another prescription. For this particular individual.. It worked the first time.

I prefer the terms dependent and abusing over the term addicted.

#1--dependent but not abusing
#2--abusing but not dependent
#3--abusing and dependent.

Nobody is addicted to pain pills. They are more than likely addicted to how pain pills make them feel and even that can be hard to prove.
