All three are definitely physically addicted and will have to go through withdrawals and/or taper / subs to get off. 2 and 3 probably are "addicted" in a truer sense of the word as most people use it.

Possibly 1 as well but if they take as prescribed for pain, then they may not have the mental aspect as hard as the other two and would have an easier time getting / staying clean.

When you see them at the pharmacy with sunglasses still on, neck tattoos and trashy girlfriend chewing her nails yelling at the pharmacist to "just fill the fricking scrip you bitch I need my medicine"

Saw that recently.

Pills will transition into heroin more times than not when the pill mill dries up. The question is could they stop taking them for any long periods of time? All are addicted, how far the addiction has progressed is the question. How do they act when there is no pills in sight? Do they start fricking people over for money/pills? Are the complete assholes and short tempered? Do they treat others around them like shite?

Opiates are a big big problem. But, like alcohol, is government approved.

1 takes a tiny amount for a legit issue and hasn't raised his dose in years so no biggie. 2 is doing something illegal so that is a concern but he also doesn't take too much and you can't take days off if you are addicted. 3 is an addict.

Not to be a downer, but it's not easy.

If he's taking narcotics, then he is building a dependency, which means he needs more to alleviate the pain.

It's why I can take half a pill and buzz off my arse and fall asleep while someone who has been taking them for years will feel nothing.

I see it in DUI cases. Driver admits to officers that he took a narcotic and they charge him with the DUI. Just because someone takes a narcotic doesn't necessarily mean they are impaired while driving, and it's because of our how body's react to these types of drugs.
