Teach him to play on the internet all day and talk about other kids actually getting outside and playing a team sport!

I am not mean at all. I am not even a hard arse. My kids are not perfect but they know I am there father and they also know to respect authority. When your bribed spoiled kid is still living with you when they are 24, my kids will be respectable members of society. Bribe them my arse!!!

We didn't avoid it and I'm glad. Solid experience for my boys. Time well spent for us.

I'm facing the same thing. The wife thinks that $2000 a year, before special training sessions, tournaments, hotels, meals, and travel is doable. when you figure you're shelling out $4000+ a year for the next 8 or 9 years...it just doesn't make sense. When you do the math it's easy to understand the business of being travel ball coaches. It may be good instruction, but just because lil' Johnny made the team doesn't mean your child is an "elite" ball player. He's the coach's mortgage payment.

When I was a kid I was the best catcher in the league. I know I know...not the a self boast just the truf...I digress...

My first season chance to be picked for the traveling all-star team my back-up got picked over me. Early lesson in "politics" and reality check, from my dad, as he made me realize that the other kids mom was probably sucking the coach off....I keed I keed....he brought up that his mom was the "team mom," so the coach probably saw value in that since she'll be able to be depended on, and she made it known too, etc etc.

Still probably sucked the coach off too...

How old is your son? Honestly how good is your son at baseball? Is it his passion? Do you see him playing baseball in high school?

If your son is a really good baseball player and you think he will want to play in high school you will eventually have to suck it up and go the travel ball route. I would hold out until he’s 11 though.

It’s my understanding that schools like Catholic High are having 80+ kids tryout for the freshman team.

I would imagine that most of the kids that make the team have been predetermined based on their reputation which unfortunately is going to include which travel ball program he played for.

We did the soccer circuit with my older ones. It was a lot of fun and life-long friends for kids and parents alike. We did not post stats on facebook however.

Ok, I coached a spoiled arse kid who cussed me out because He didn’t like what I said about him always striking out without swinging. His parents sided with the little bitch. It struck a nerve with me.

I loved baseball as a kid. But I would’ve hated it if I had to play every weekend year round.

This exactly. When I played ball, the season started in March and ended in June, and you would play all your games at the same park. If you won the park championship, you went on to the city championship, etc. There was no travel ball and very few tournaments.
Now my daughter plays "travel soccer", but there is very little travel. We do a local tourney and a travel tourney in the Fall and the same in the Spring, but the travel tournaments were in places like Biloxi and Houma, so we didn't have to get hotels, etc.
As she has gotten older, there are fewer local teams her age to play, so this Spring we will travel to Memphis for a tourney, the furthest we have ever travelled.
I know BR has teams her age that travel to Vegas and other places for tournies. frick this, that too much money.

I know the type... we dont roll like that or put up with that shite. The parents that put up with it are worse than the a-hole kid.

It’s really not for fat kids with no athletic ability or poor people.

Sucks for y’all but oh well.
