I assume it's based on rank and/or seniority. With the sheer amount of vehicles in a large departments fleet someone is bound to get the shaft. I mean it would suck getting a late 90's beat to shite Crown Vic while your buddy gets the 2017 Tahoe.

This thought came into my head when I saw 3 officers eating at a restaurant. 1 white man and 2 black men. White guy was in the Ford Taurus and 2 black men in the Chevy Impala.

The smaller the penis, the larger the vehicle

Just wreck it when you need a newer one.

Some do rank/seniority.

Dad is a Sheriff. He was driving around this red impala that the last sheriff had. Looked like a damn fire chief car.

He did get an upgrade recently and Warren Buffet Jr. donated a brand new Tahoe.

Buffet Jr is a nearby sheriff. He volunteers and has been an reserve officer for years. He has been appointed because the previous sheriff having medical issues. Also the guy has done wonders in central illinois with donations and building stuff for the community.

You get a car and you drive it until it is time to replace it....then you get a new one.

Each year, officers are graded/ranked on quotas hit/exceeded. When the new fleet is scheduled to arrive, the higher ranked (quota score) generally have first choice of vehicle. Then it just continues down the line.

Had a buddy who was a city cop. He got pulled over and given a ticket by some a-hole LSP trooper. By the time my buddy got through calling in favors, the LSP trooper had been relegated to a refurbed car that was previously designated as a "parts car." Oh, and the ticket that the LSP wrote mysteriously disappeared.

All of that was 30-something years ago, so I'd imagine most of the statutes of limitations have lapsed. But, I'd imagine that plays a part in how they are allotted their vehicles.

If you’re a real piece of shite you get one of the new Explorers that pumps monoxide into the cabin.

Most of these replies seem to be for take home rides.

What about big cities where they have a motor pool?

I imagine those go on a seniority then fcfs basis.
