There is a ship in NOLA you can rent space for and use his equipment.

Check if there is I one near you

If available, straddle a ditch. Should provide plenty of room.

Has anyone told him to ask his husband for help?

If you have to ask we are probably going to be reading about your death when you get smashed by a two ton vehicle. Get your husband to do it.

frick the haters.

If someone gives you shite for trying to learn something, then they can get bent. Watch a YouTube video on your particular vehicle and you'll do it fine. Those ramps are handy and not expensive.

At least youre doing it yourself, unlike most of these nerds that are paying a high school dropout to change theirs.

ETA--those ramps are handy as frick. Last year we were living in our 5th wheel for 4 months during a house remodel. I used those car ramps to wheel the external Rhino dump tank on to so I could elevate it to dump it in the septic clean out. Worked great.

Anyone thinking of buying these DON'T!!!!

If you need extra height, the OP won't, over a standard ramp use a jack and quality jacks stands.

If you can't see the potentially deadly issues with these don't take my word for it watch the Project Farm video on car ramps.

For some reason, my image key isn't working, it is the red ramps with the hydraulic jacks for extra height. I'll try to edit with the picture after I post.

ETA still doesn't work? Hamsters don't like me.

Finally!

I'd much rather have a metal oil pan (peeferably steel), gets whacked running over a piece of road debris I'd rather have a dent and maybe seepage than a full hole busted out of it. A stamped steel replacement pan for my vehicles is about $50 - $75.

Those "genuises" also put a secondary plastic bottom that you have to remove before accessing where the oil pan is.

So a normal 5 minute job of unscrewing the plug is now infinitely longer because you have 15 screws to remove just to get access to it.

If you don’t want to purchase drive on ramps, get a 4 by 4 wooden post or a 6 by 6 and cut a block about a foot long. Put block on top of your small jack this will give you an extra 4-6 inches of lift

This sounds like an excellent way to die

Just buy some ramps and chocks, man. It's that simple.

I was a diesel mechanic in another life, DO NOT use your little OEM scissor jack to do anything but change a tire in an emergency. Especially don't balance a piece of wood on top of that jack and expect your 2.5 ton SUV to be balanced on that piece of wood while you're under it.

I've had a vehicle slip off a jack and jack stands before because the lugnuts were overtightened by an idiot Walmart tire changer, you don't want to be under that vehicle and fighting with any sort of overtightened plug with it on jack stands - or especially a single scissor jack with a piece of wood on top of it.

Ridiculous, at least when they started going to cast aluminum they could argue about heat dissipation and structural stiffness. Plastic is just being cheap and creating a failure point.

You’re the idiot that didn’t loosen the lug nuts before you jacked it up.

People get killed all the time when the car they are working on falls on them. That’s gotta be a particularly bad way to die. I remember a story where a kid twisted the handle on the jack and the car crushed his dad.

Get a jack and jack stands or car ramps.

The wheel was stuck on the hub where it had been warped by overtightening actually

But keep being a know-it-all

This. My wife has a Mazda CX9 and I’ve never had to raise it to change the oil. We’re also of similar build.
