How difficult would it be to catfish you into leaving your job?

We hear stories about people getting catfished while online dating and shite. But I was wondering how hard it would be to catfish somebody into an accepting another job and quitting the company they work.

Seems like it could be easier to do these days with no in person meetings.

1. You get a call to your work number, asking if you're interested in interviewing.

2. Person says they're from a known competitor.

3. Asks to schedule phone interview due to COVID.

4. Urgent opening that requires that they start in 30 days.

5. Salary 150% of current.

6. Tell them to give notice, and take 2 weeks off before they start work.

7. Show up for orientation at competitors address.

Would you fall for it?

I'd want to meet face to face and be 100% sure it is legit before I would do something that stupid.

The world I work in is small, plus I love my job. So pretty damn difficult.

Did this happen to you? I also would require face to face interviews.

Then you catfish the new company and convince them that they did indeed hire you!

Throw somebody out of their office and take it over.

Uh yeah I'm not taking a job without meeting people in person. Unless, of course, the pay increase is 200%. NO LESS!

I don’t see why anyone would catfish you to leave your job, but I left my previous job for my current job without meeting anyone face to face. I did email several people from the company, and signed “official paperwork” and such. I may have even done a drug screening but I don’t recall if that was for this job or another.

It could definitely happen in my field as probably 50% of the work was remote work (even before covid).

I'd probably fall for this since I don't enjoy my job that much

It would be pretty hard to do this to anyone with a fully functioning brain. So, that leaves about half the US population that’s still susceptible to it.

Between email domains, offer letters, in-person meetings, social media, etc. it would be pretty hard to put on a believable act.

I started a new job a month ago without ever meeting anyone in person due to COVID; all video interviews. The person would have to be pretty dumb but it’s possible
