Quit about 7 years ago. Switched to a vape pipe that leaked and did not work half the time. Kept trying different brands and it was always a battle to get on to work.

That was an issue for me too bc every vape I tried was so shitty. Then someone told me about VUSE vapes & 1 pod lasts a week and a 4 pk is $22. After I found that I never touched a cig again.

Cold turkey - I was 2+ pack a day for 5 years in 1961. I had tried to stop several times "when I got to the end of this pack/carton" - that meant that when I wasn't smoking, it was because I didn't have one to smoke, not that I had actually denied the urge. Inevitably someone would come by and offer me one - and eventually I'd take it (just one won't hurt) - then I'd buy a pack and be back on again.

So - in 1961 I read in Reader's Digest their new feature "I am Joe's ---'body part' ---". The first one was "I am Joe's Lung" - and it described in detail the progression of lung cancer and show photos of healthy lungs and diseased lungs. The images were so awful, I decided then and there that I would never smoke another cigarette.

Problem was - I had just bought a carton and was on my 3rd pack, and only had smoked 3 or 4 of that pack.

Here is my method == I decided to carry that open pack with me in my shirt pocket - just like always, only now I WOULD NOT SMOKE ONE!! ---- Now what THAT meant was that in the first HOUR I had consciously decided to not smoke over 1000 times.

And that is the secret - CONSTANTLY REFUSING TO SMOKE THAT CIGARETTE IN YOUR POCKET!!!

Within a few days, it became easier. and by the end of the week it was over.

Now, I kept that pack of cigarettes with me for over 15 years. Back in the late 70s, a friend came by and asked me if I had a cigarette and I handed him that pack - he took one and lit it = IT CAUGHT ON FIRE!!! - LOL.

And yes - I fell off the wagon two times. First time was when the Surgeon General first declared that all cigarette packages must have the WARNING - SMOKING CAN BE HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH. People were talking about it at work the next day and I acted like smart arse and declared = "Hell - I ain't scared - somebody give me a cigarette!!!" Someone gave me one, and I smoked it and at noon I went to the machine and bought a pack.

Second time was when a good friend had a baby and passed out cigars at work - For me he gave me a fine Cuban cigar, and I smoked it. It was so good, I started smoking cigars, but could not afford the expensive ones so I ended up with cigarettes again.

Last time I quit was when my daughter told me = "all I want for my birthday is for you to stop smoking" - That was in 1973 - It was her 13th birthday. I laid the pack down and have not smoked another one since. That will soon be 50 years ago.

I dipped. A friend did hypnosis.

We were both successful at quitting smoking. We dipped together for years after.

I weened myself down to just when I was stressed out beyond normal or drinking. Eventually a year or two later I quit on Ash Wednesday. Felt like it was time and it worked.

I quit with the name brand Nicoderm CQ patch(far and away the best quality).

I did a very long taper by cutting the patch into smaller and smaller pieces.

My wife's mother, no pic of either, quit after she died of lung cancer. We have smoked for over 30 years and my wife quit cold turkey. Me, I'm a pussy took three more days, then I quit. Best move I have ever made, except for marrying my smoking, smoking wife.

I used the patch for a few weeks. I had read that all the nicotine will be out of your system after 72 hours, so I used willpower and chewing gum to get through that three day period.

One day, I realized I could breathe through both nostrils for the first time in years. That's when it stuck.

I use 2 mg gum. Smoked for almost 40 years. Love the smell, don’t mind if someone smokes in my car. Still miss them but wouldn’t touch one unless the world was going to end. If that were the case I grab a carton and get busy.

It doesn't bother me either although I'd never want someone smoking in my house or truck. It smells strong to me once you don't smoke anymore. I smoke cigars some but not that often, maybe 2 per month.

I'd think smoking that little would be a snap to quit. I quit cold turkey from a 2 pack of Kool cigarettes a day habit over 20 years ago and haven't had the desire to get one near my mouth again.

I just made up my mind enough was enough and at midnight on New Year's Eve I gave my remaining cigarettes to a friend of mine and have never looked back.

I got Chantix. After taking the meds for a week or so I remember getting just obliterated on JD one night and smoking damn near two packs that night. The next morning I spent the entire morning just screaming my guts into the toilet. I couldn’t keep anything down. I drove to the hospital on base and some corpsman found me in the parking lot.

I was put on an IV and sent on my way a few hours later. That experience made it easy to drop them because I gagged when I went to light one up after that. Plus having a newborn a month later also helped. Didn’t touch the stuff again.

I just quit, cold turkey. A case of the flu made it easier to get started. Took about a year to feel like I had truly whipped it.

But you were only smoking. 3-5, I was smoking a pack a day. It was tough at first, but it gets better.

Was in the hospital for 3 days and first thing I did when I got out was light one up in the car on the way home. For some reason it tasted disgusting to me and I put it out and threw away the rest of the pack.

I did start to crave for a cigarette later but started using the On nicotine pouches occasionally to curb it. Smoked for nearly 25 years and haven't had a cigarette in over 4 years now. Very rarely miss it and saves me a lot of money.

I always thought I was really good at covering the smell of cigarette smoke with cologne/body spray and breath mints but now when I am in a group of people and one is a smoker you can definitely smell it, no matter how much they try to cover it up. Really pretty nasty.

I started when I was 14 or 15 too. Smoked until I was 31. I probably smoked my first cigarette around 12, possibly even younger. We'd smoke cigs in our clubhouse in the woods as kids. Neither of my parents ever smoked.

Sounds like my story of how I started smoking. But my dad smoked heavy (Lucky Strikes-no filter) and mom only smoked when she drank alcohol. I was a smoker for 37 years, tried to quit several times and failed miserably. Every time I started running low on cigarettes I would panic and end up running to the store to buy more. Foiling my plan to quit. How I finally quit was very unconventional. Once I picked a date to quit, I placed cigarettes everywhere. Just knowing there were cigarettes within my reach should I want it was reassuring. The panic never hit me and I was able to quit. Weird, huh? But it worked for me. Can't say if it will work for others but it's worth a try.

If you had a childhood/early teen years in the 80s or 90s (or prior) the attitude towards smoking was just completely different. I'd be willing to bet that 1/3 of my high school peers smoked, maybe even half of them. Just different times.

Thought about how they were affecting my breathing (shortness of breath), changes in small vessels of face, and how those processes must be affecting me internally. Found new habits ie toothpicks, occasional dip.

I was a pack a day for about 8 yrs. Did it somewhat cold turkey. Had a bag of candy in my truck for the rides and gum after eating. Mainly jolly ranchers.
But to be 100% honest I did still smoke the funny cigarettes during that time. But I haven't smoke cigs in 22yrs.
