The actual alcoholic is almost always the last person to realize they are an alcoholic, especially in a family system. If you think you have a drinking problem, everyone around you has already thought the same

Kratom

Be careful with that, it’s long-term effects are not known for non-indigenous users. Cannabis has been studied a lot longer if that’s an option. Kratom is like the best part of all drugs, and none of the bad parts until it’s not. I know someone who has used Kratom almost daily for five years, and most of the time it has not been that great, He managed 30 days off a few times, you can definitely check out the quitting kratom sub Reddit and see all the anecdotal problems it causes them. For him it has destroyed his sleep, it’s a diuretic and he get up way too often to pee, and is foggy as a result the next day.

I haven't quit drinking, but I very rarely drink during the week now, other than maybe a beer while making dinner or something.

I'll drink occasionally on Thursdays, depending on what my Friday looks like, and then I'll drink however much I want on Friday/Saturday.

What I've noticed by doing this is I tend to drink less on the weekends than I used to. Possibly becuase being able to experience the feeling of waking up with zero alcohol in me from the night before has me moderating more (aka hangovers suck worse now.) Possibly just because the desire is minimized when you don't do it everyday.

It's definitely more of a boredom/habit for me. I could almost never go more than 5-7 days drinking in a row due to hangovers and guilt (exception for spring break and/or summer during college), so I wouldn't say this is good advice for someone who is physically addicted.

How did I quit?

Overall, I realized it was starting to get late. I simply quit.

Started again a week later.

Seriously, when you consider having a drink, force yourself to do anything else (active) for 15 minutes. As with nearly all cravings, the immediate desire dissipates quickly. It takes a small amount of willpower at that moment, but if you are adult with adult responsibilities, you've mastered willpower. I know that sounds condescending, but it's not.

Never started so I didn’t have to stop. I have an addictive personality so I have to watch what I do.

I was never an alcoholic, but I was a casual binge drinker who never could say no to going out and drinking. I did black out 3-4x a week for like 4 years in my early 20s.

So for those who are like I was, I ended up not wanting to feel shitty anymore so I just stopped drinking. There was a few months of feeling afraid to be around booze, but now I have a healthy relationship with it. I'll have a drink maybe 3-4x a year, some years none. I can get drunk and not feel like doing that again. Having control is nice

I was like that to an extent. When your first ckass is 11 am the next day and you're young enough to recover quickly, you can get away with overdoing it.

When you have to be up at 6:30 to go to work, different story.

Hangovers have always been enough reason for me to stop drinking. At least for a week or so.

So much this. I moved back home to Monroe in 2018 for an O&G job that was pitched as a sure thing with the possibility of taking over the company after a few years. Well it quickly fell apart and by 2019 I was looking for another gig back in Houston after buying a home in Monroe and moving my entire family there. He paid me a nice package so I spent about 6 months doing nothing and feeling sorry for myself. I was deflated and started drinking every day. I would show up at my buddies house down the street every afternoon and he always had some beer in his fridge and I would generally add a 6 pack or a 12 pack. We would drink and just hang out and I would bitch about life and then go home and usually drink some more. Finally it hit home when my buddies wife called me an alcoholic to my face and kinda told me to quit coming over. I was stunned since I thought I was out of sight out of mind with my drinking but people closet to you know and see it.

i can still be a bit of binge drinker myself.

alcoholism is a big part of my family history unfortunately.

best advice i can give you if aren't interested in AA or something like that is to stay as active as you can.

I use to jog 3 miles a day but now my job has pretty much broken that habit cause of the amount of time and physical demand of it.

basically by having something to do physically active for most of the day has helped but on my off day(s) it's a different story.

Cold turkey. Done it with cigs and alcohol. I still want them on occasion, just tell myself no. Stay away from people who do drink or pressure you to.

Switched to pot. Oh and I still drink whiskey. But at least I combined the two so I don’t have to do as much of either.

It's day 4 for me not drinking and today is the first day I feel OK, but also the first day I am tempted to have a drink. What's the best strategy for coping?

Coroner committed me to the hospital.

A few days later, the sheriff brought me to rehab in Abbeville.

Done it one day at a time since December 17, 2016.

I have over 2 years without smoking cigarettes, too.

Go for a walk, workout, or something to occupy yourself. sitting around thinking about it is just going to end up with you talking yourself into going to get some booze

For some reason I always thought I recall you posting about how much you don’t drink and how much you work out and healthy you claim to be.

Am I mistaken?

I'm not in need to be committed although I have been depressed as heck for a couple of days. I walked and have been here reading. Just today is tough, but I don't want to start at day one again and start messing up.
