It takes a while. I don't remember how long. I work 8 minutes from my house and have a flexible schedule. Therefore, I was able to run home and let him out after the puppy pad phase.

I wanted a cocker spaniel & my wife said that we should get the designer mutt variety so it doesn’t shed. We ended up with a Cockapoo.

What are you looking for out of a dog?

I am surprised no one has said peanut butter yet. I am disappointed.

Friend posted dog that couldn't stay where it was looking for a foster. I said I would take it. Turned out to be way bigger dog in real life. Dog got along good with the kids and cat so we kept her. Dane mix.

no lie...walked out of the office today at 6pm there were two brown and white puppies playing in the grass by the road. They both looked healthy and happy and they were rolling in the grass doing their puppy thing. I sat down on the driveway and called them over, one came but the other took off and then the one I was petting followed him around the corner and gone. I looked around for a bit but they disappeared
They were both beagle mixes.
OP I’ll see if I can find them for you tomorrow LOL

I have since heard the the family that we gave the dog to is now divorced and the dog has sent all of them to the hospital at various times for bite injuries. Not kidding.
Shite. I was getting ready to go to bed and now I want to read this thread. I’m feeling good. It’s been a while. Can’t wait to start at 4:00 tomorrow.

Found a rescue that specialized in the breed we wanted. They caravaned him from Kansas and we picked him up in Natchez

Puppies are not fun, dogs are fun. Lots of training and repetition. It’s never too early to start training. The first year is tough but it gets better each day. The key is rewarding and repetition. Plenty of training videos on YouTube. Every dog is different though. Find what works for you and stick with it. Plenty of chew toys to keep them from chewing what you don’t want destroyed.

My daughter and I went to an event at Jefferson Feed put on by a local rescue.
She immediately saw a dog she liked and instantly fell in love.
We adopted her a few days later.
I like going through rescues because the dogs are fostered. So the foster family can tell you if the dog is house broken, how they are with kids and other pets, and what their general disposition is.
If you’re in the New Orleans area, check out Take Paws Rescue.

Oldest daughter happened to see a FB post of an older woman needing to find a home for hers because her husband was sick. Had him 3 years now and he is the best dog we have ever had. Goldendoodle.

How did you get your puppy
So when does the whole ‘puppy’ thing become fun? We got one for the family and it’s been a nightmare since day one. Nearing 12 weeks old. Really hoping for some light at the end of the tunnel so I don’t regret giving in on this..
It took us about 6-8 months. One she was fixed, and finished some training, she was like a new dog. Before that change, really wasn’t sure if my wife was going to be able to make it. Now, those two are inseparable.

some white people on facebook
Got a beagle for my wife, she loves it but I think it's an annoying retard of a dog and wish I got her something else.

It would help if you listed the attributes you're looking for.

Adopted first dog, a heeler, from a local vet who found it. Vet thought she was a year and a half old at the time. Going on 13 now.
About two years ago, I started looking at breeders for another heeler. I was willing to pay a fair amount. Didn’t pull the trigger several times.
Then I was home visiting my parents for thanksgiving 2021 and a family friend mentioned they knew a farmer with an unplanned litter. Drove over there, mom and dad seemed like good dogs, gave him $100, and took one home with me.
She’s a pretty good dog, and I’m glad I didn’t pay out the nose for a fancy one from a breeder.
