The problem is with social media and internet access everyone’s demons are known and magnified. We can agree those named in OP had some issues but for the most part we didn’t care and looked at the good they did. Nowadays every bad they did or rumor would be highlighted 24/7 on news or social media.

Ummm, she was a vapid girl without a stray thought in her head. She was completely ate up with celebrity culture. How she became this icon is beyond me.
She also founded numerous charities. One becoming renowned for its efforts to remove land mines from former war torn countries

I agree that ideas, not people should be idealized. Princess Diana had a lot of affairs and so did MLK. However, outwardly they portrayed a good image and they also both did a lot of good. These days, people don’t even try to portray a good image. I think that’s the difference. The “heroes” of years ago seemed to at least try to live up to the ideal. There are still people who do good, but being “bad” is too often glorified.

You should have been around in the 50s and 60s when we also thought it was going south.
Yet many of the 'social justice' issues brought about then were actually, in the long run, good.
Most of you hair brain punks on here are all about marijuana. Back then a joint could get you 5 years in the slammer.
All of you who slam cops now? Well, back then with no Miranda and courts having a 'lay off' attitude on violating certain rights would really frick your mind up had you been there.
And when you bitch about lawyers and law suits? Back then you didn't even have to have liability insurance. You simply drove drunk, paid a fine of $200 bucks and kept on keeping on. If you had a wreck, the other guy was up shite creek in getting his vehicle fixed.
Medicare? You should have heard the screaming against it then. Well, guess what? Your grandparents and parents get pretty much free medical insurance upon retirement so they can save that money and give it to your sorry arse when they croak. Not that you would appreciate it.
So, some of the changes have actually been for the better. What y'all would be screaming about then, had you been alive, ain't shite compared to now maybe in your mind.

Maybe that’s the problem. Since your demons will be found and posted anyway, maybe people just say frick it and don’t even bother.

I appreciate your response. That was a good way of explaining it.

It is really a strange time when the richest among us also hold the seat of moral authority.

On the flip side you only looked to these people because a media that was unchecked told you to.
You think people started lying in the news yesterday?
lol
That newspaper you picked up 60 years ago that you thought was the truth was about as real as ABC news claiming a shooting range in Kentucky was a slaughter in Syria. Only no one was posting the real story on the internet and you went on with your day outraged.
If anything I feel bad for how played people in the past obviously were.

Well off folks who preach progressivism are the worst hypocrites in the world.

Without going into detail it started with the way we consume news online. It has gotten to a point where the truth isn't as important as what can get the most traffic.
Social media is responsible for division and it is used as a weapon
And people have become too entitled and it seems like there is less general respect for each other.
