..and it preys upon the elderly.

You buy cards to play per game
Winners get something that costs less than the combined money paid in.

Is buying a card the same as betting on an outcome though? Especially since it's random (unless you're Saul Goodman)?

Bingo is just a longer version of roulette.

Change my mind.

Are you suggesting that laws are enforced inconsistently in this country, particularly when dealing with vices????

They fall under Charitable Gaming Laws in Louisiana and aren't considered "gambling." Charitable Gaming used to be regulated by the State Police, now it's regulated by the Department of Revenue.

That’s exactly why it’s gambling. It is 100% a game of chance.

Yup. Bingo games were normally tied to churches, the VFW, or something like that. Even kids could play bingo as long as they were willing to pony up the money for a card or two.

This is correct.

Almost like a cover charge for a bar.

The Catholic High men's club used to run a weekly bingo game as a fundraiser, maybe they still do, IDK. The clientele was almost entirely poor and black, their addiction subsidizing the educational experience of primarily upper middle class white kids. Apparently Catholic High didn't see any moral or ethical dilemma in this.

I think most are non profit/charities, there's likely an exemption carved for these organizations.

Why wouldn't poker games fall under this same category?
