How dangerous are motorcycles for those of you who have them?

I always wanted a street bike, but obviously would prefer not to die so haven’t yet purchased one and probably never will . For those who do have them is it worth the risk to you? How often are cars almost hitting you? I unfortunately watched a really bad motorcycle wreck today on the way home and it got me wondering why anyone still rides.

More dangerous than a car, less dangerous than a used needle

I dont know what you have in mind in terms of a lifestyle you want to live, but whatever it is just make it the opposite of what Darth is doing

They are dangerous if you live out in the country with limited traffic. But living in an area with a decent sized population with any traffic, I would not ever recommend that anyone ride one on the streets, unless of course you are under the protection of a motorcycle club member like Sabi or Darth.

I rode one out of economic necessity for senior year of high school and first year of college. Honda 750.

Almost died a few times. People will look you in the eyes and pull out in front of you.

Their brain is trained to look for cars and trucks. Smaller objects do not register as a threat . You’re dead.

Love bikes, but have not ridden one on the streets in years. Too many retards out there.

Yea if you took away cell phones and other distractions I would buy a bike in second. Some risk I’m willing to take, but not the amount that is on the road today.

If you buy a bike be sure you have great health insurance. It's not a matter of if you'll wreck but when.

Dread it, run from it. Destiny still arrives.

You take a chance getting out of bed in the morning. Everything you do has its own risk involved.

Two kinds of motorcycle riders

Those that have ad wrecks and skidded across pavement and those that will.

Your choice.

Riding motorcycles on public roads is more dangerous than driving a car. However, most motorcycle riders are woefully undertrained and most accidents they suffer are preventable.

If you just want to be on 2 wheels consider a dirt bike/enduro and if you want to go fast consider trackdays or drag racing.

If you want a Harley then you never really wanted to ride, anyway....

Just like anything else, the danger level is up to the operator.

There are roughly 8.5 million motorcycles on the road in the USA and roughly 300 fatalities per year, of that 300 the majority are young riders on sportsbikes.

Take from the above what you will.
