re: How can I go about exposing a speed trap and racket in Jeanerette/Patterson, LA?

I've never gotten pulled over there, nor have I seen many pulled over.
Patterson is hit or miss and they just got lumped in with Jeanerette because it has happened there too, but they're a traditional PD so I can live with it.
The Jeanerette City Marshal is another story altogether. I seriously should get a dash cam just to keep track of all of the citations they give out. I swear I've seen 4 city marshals within 3 miles with people pulled over. They're supposed to be executing warrants and they've got 4 "speeders" pulled over on a road that doesn't touch the city limits of Jeanerette. Give me a fricking break.

Do you even Hwy 182 through scenic downtown Jeanerette, bro?

Do you have to do it with your name? I'd prefer to do it through an intermediary if I have to put my name.
They have to know who to send the info to. You could do it through an attorney but that will cost you and they'll probably discourage you. Just do it yourself.
If you are scared, remember good men spilled blood, lost blood and froze to death just so you wouldn't have to put up with bullshite like this from your government. These men lost everything for YOUR RIGHTS. Don't bitch out on them. Plant your flag and do what is right. If there are some consequences, so be it. I never regret a single fight I got into but I sure as hell regret some of the ones I didn't.
If I were you I'd very clearly write down exactly what I was trying to accomplish. Define the problem that you want to solve using less than 15 words. It will provide you with clarity. If you can't do it in less than 15 words you don't know what you want.
Once you have your 15 word problem you want to solve define the plan of attack. Execute your plan of attack. While you are doing all of this spend your time educating yourself on the subject.
Hell, post it here, we'll critique it for you.

Dash cam setup from Amazon... Setup the view to include your speedometer.... Drive around the area until you are pulled over?

I drive through Jeanette on 182 a lot, I rarely see any cops. Guess they are all on Highway 90. Not many blinker lights burn out in downtown Jeanerette

Do FOIA requests have to come through the media?
Not to belabor semantics, but at state law it's a Public Records Document Request (PRD). Federal law is FOIA.
A Google search should give you the Louisiana law as well as some sample PRD requests with the relevant legal citations.

quote:Yep. Baldwin cop wrote my wife a ticket for 80 in a 70. I was following right behind her in my truck and my speedometer and GPS both said 74 mph.
They pull you over when you are going legit 5 over, and write you for 10-12 over.
I called the cop over to my truck and told him about my GPS and speedometer and said, "So either your radar is wrong or you're a liar. Which is it?"
fricking piece of shite cops.

This is why people hate (some) cops.
I have good friends who are cops, yet I have a hatred for a-hole cops that burns with intensity.
Some of them and their political bosses deserve to be horsewhipped in the public square.

quote:That is correct. Any ticket written on an Interstate highway by a city cop for less than 10 mph, the fines go to the state.
I seem to remember reading 10mph and under doesn't go directly to them anymore. There have been a number of attempts to direct that money to the state highway fund, I'm not 100% they passed however.
Those cocksuckers in Washington who were writing tickets for 1-3 mph over the speed limit on the downside of the overpass were the reason for the law. They owed the state over $250,000 in fines and refused to hand it over. Black chief of police said the law was written because they were racist.

Why do I see "I thought he was reaching for a weapon" and "he was resisting arrest" soon in your future?

I occasionally take this route. I don't speed and never had a problem.

I just witnessed a jean city marshal writing a ticket in "st mary parish"....
Posted on 5/9/16 at 9:34 am to Thacian
Apparently it's all about their "ward", although I'm not sure if that extends into St Mary Parish.

You need to get at least 20 speeding tickets. Maybe an arrest or two.
You got to have something to back up your case.
Maybe they could shoot you. Just spitballing.

What I found absolutely crazy is that the city marshal salaries for the marshal in jeanerette is double than that of the laf or iberia marshal....jeanerette a dirt poor town...how in the world is this possible?
