I got a ticket on 90 around Jeanerette about 7-8 years ago. Was going about 72 in a 65. Cop pulled me over and gave me a ticket saying I was going 82. Showed up on the court date, told the judge I wasn't arguing that I was speeding, but I was absolutely not going 82. He cut my fine in half and the ticket didn't go on my record.
To this day that is the only speeding ticket I've ever received.

Not to mention several, yes several laf, iberia,st mary and terrebone parish city cops and sheriff depties have been fired and placed in jail.and still several serving time for being a criminal where they used their "jobs" illegally to gain what "they" wanted....if you don't believe me, research it.....

Who ever told you that is wrong. It's 75 both ways. At least it is from Opelousas to Alexandria.

New Iberia City Marshal 2015 Salary, Retirement, Benefits, Auto Expense, and Outside Services - $121,334
Jeanerette City Marshal 2015 Salary, Retirement, Benefits, Auto Expense, and Outside Services - $302,647
What kind of sense does that make??

I live between the two towns so I go thru them many times in a week. I set cruise 4mph over the speed limit and have never had a problem.

Its a scam! Report it to LSP. In the 80s Gonzalez was the same way. Now its St Martin Parrish.

I seem to remember reading 10mph and under doesn't go directly to them anymore. There have been a number of attempts to direct that money to the state highway fund, I'm not 100% they passed however.

I've traveled through there many times since without any issues. But that time I was pulled over the cop definitely added about 10mph to my ticket.

And I get that departments need to bring in some revenue outside of the regular tax money going to them but the numbers are ridiculous, and if that's the case maybe your police force is too big and you need to get rid of those new tahoes.
Preach.
Seriously, if a city marshal is supposed to serve warrants and those kind of things, what do they need with a blacked-out, ghost writing paint job? If they want/need a new vehicle, get a Charger. Why do multiple marshals have Tahoes and Explorers in Jeanerette of all places.

Thanks for the info, I'll check it out.

Surely you see the prevalence of Jeanerette City Marshals on the highway though. Even if every ticket is legit, why are they even there?
I also think there is something to be said for drivers entering the parish/jurisdiction, much like civil asset forfeiture violations tend to target incoming drivers hoping to get out-of-towners.

In Patterson I got a ticket from an officer Grogan. I inquired later about going to the court date and found out Patterson has a "mayor's court" where the mayor presides over the hearing. The mayor's last name - Grogan. I paid my ticket and gave up at that point.
Sounds like you need to take a Grogan on the steps of the courthouse.

I'm with you on the Jeanerette Marshalls. It's such bullshite that they spend all of their time on Hwy 90 when that road doesn't even pass through the city limits. I run a radar detector and always slow to the speed limit between the railroad tracks and the overpass, even if I'm not getting a radar reading. Those fricks are good at hiding with their blacked out cars.
I wish the farmers would put up big speed trap warning signs. I've seen the farmers do it on Hwy 190 around Basile.

It doesn't happen because small towns such as Woodworth were writing tickets for as little as 3 miles over the speed limit to boost their revenue. So, as it stands now, if a local department writes a speeding citation for less than 10 miles over the speed limit the money goes to the state. Im not sure about all Sheriif's Departments but my local one only gets less than 10% revenue from citations. The majority goes to the court and district attorney's office therefore most of these problems are found in smaller municipal departments that are mostly self funded.

See, perfect example. Some people read this and say you're lucky it was cut in half and stop breaking the law. I read it and see it for the scam that it is. They'll let you go or cut the fine because they don't want to deal with the headache when there are hundreds of other drivers who will pay without incident. As I said before, letting me off with a warning makes it worse on some levels - although I'd rather that than the actual ticket - because they're basically saying they've got nothing on me and they'll just pull someone else over in a minute.
