Honest assessment:

Houma has some nice areas, decent downtown post-college age night life, some activities, traffic sucks.

Thibodaux is mostly nice, not much to do in general, decent bars, no traffic.

If you move anywhere, you'll probably be hanging with work friends until you get established.

Say you moved to a big city with no connections, what would you want to be doing (activity wise) that you think you can't find in the bayou region?

And on the positive side, at least they're not Morgan city!

I mean it's not NYC or Paris, but it's not freakin bumF**k nowhere either. Place is growing pretty substantially. There are "nice" areas to raise a family. There are also some pretty shitty areas. Houma problem is they don't always have the best distinctive lines between the two.

I'd say dating multiple women that don't know each other would be easier in a big city

I would assume the tinder action w/in 30 min of the 90/24 intersection is pretty solid.

I live in thib. born and raised. Moved to BR for LSU then moved back after. I work in the O&G but not an offshore hand. I drive to Houma Mon-Friday for work.
- I hunt and fish so it's a prime location. The wife and I still have friends in BR and it's isn't a bad trip.
- Outside if bars, hunting and fishing there isn't much else to do but that's fine by me. Both cites are growing fast so I'm not sure what will come in the future as far as entertainment goes.

This is literally every city ever. The nice, touristy, good restaurant areas of NO are a stones throw from some of the worst crime areas in the country

I more mean the nice 400k+ neighborhood has industrial warehouses backing up to it. The older places will have a bad arse house next to a piece of crap. The zoning is out of whack.

Houma is growing almost daily but they have no city planning whatsoever. the streets and traffic are horriblebut. my biggest concern is all the luxury apartments they are building because everyone knows today's luxury apartments are tomorrow's section 8 housing.

I imagine they're building like crazy off of MLK? I was shocked at the set up across from the Muni Auditorium between 311 and Bayou Black rd last time I passed thru headed to Falgoust Canal.
And I believe those are relatively old.

They are starting to run out of room on MLK. Around 311 where they are making it 4 lanes will probably be the next area. The comment about no city planning is spot on.

Yeah that area around MLK and N. Hollywood is insane. I used to sit in trig class at VCH and watch them building MLK blvd. Hard to believe its grown as it has. What about 311 towards Ellendale? Residential or is it turning commercial?

Residential. 311 around 90 is commercial. Gray north of 90 is blowing up with O&G

If you moving to Houma/Thib Area id look for something in Bayou Blue Esp. If you have to work at SLB Bayou Blue.
