In Texas, you have to get your inspection sticker before you can renew your registration.

So, if you want to get nailed for both then that's what will happen.

I got an inspection sticker ticket in the early 90s. Was getting off the ramp in port Allen and port Allen cop pulled me over for expired sticker. No other violation.

I know there was a plan to have a chit installed in each sticker when installed and this would be mated with a laser type scanner in all LSP units - don't know if it was ever put

A license plate scanner is all they need. No need to do anything other than that. Your license plate is linked to your registration and your inspection sticker. Just by scanning the plate and hitting the database, they instantly know whether you're on expired registration or inspection sticker. They really don't even need to look at the color of the registration sticker or the inspection sticker to know if it's out of date.

They also know whether or not you have proper insurance on the vehicle and whether or not the person the car is registered to has a valid driver's license.

Also, if the plate scanner can't read the plate, you're going to get hammered for that smoked out license plate cover you installed.

If plate scanners are installed, the cop knows what tickets he's writing or whether or not you're going to jail before he steps out of the patrol car.

$250 ticket for expired/no inspection sticker vs $10 cost to get inspection sticker

Inspection stick costs $22 I think. Or is it $18.

Don’t know if it’s still done today, but expired insp sticker used to be an excuse for little speed trap town cops to pull you over.

Not possible when baws got a check engine light.

I got an inspection sticker with a missing muffler and no right turn signal one time. You just have to know where to go.

The one time you drive drunk or holding some drugs, you’ll get stopped for brake tag.

I went about 3 years with an expired one once.

Longer if you count the fact that when I did get I just bought it off someone instead of going to an inspection place

depends what parish you are in, the cost and the fine are proportional

in my area its $10 for 1 yr and $20 for 2 yrs.

i think new orleans is $12 or $15 a year, im sure baton rouge is double anywhere else because they are crooks so you are probably right about it being $22 a year

If you can make it until your color comes back around you basically get a free year.

No cop will write you a ticket for not having a Louisiana inspection sticker outside of Louisiana. It's a state law not a federal law.

It’s not even about the money. It’s about the principle and how hideous that ugly rectangular sticker peeling off from the sun rays is.

My question is, can you keep your vehicle registered in LA if you live in another state as long as you have an address to use?

I took mine off about 4 years ago after it expired and went about 1.5 years before I went and got another one. Never was an issue.

I have been pulled over for that reason alone. And it invites LEOs to be looking for any other violation.

Why would you want to do this? Insurance rates are higher here than anywhere else. I didn't change my plates to Louisiana until they expired when I first moved here. Called to change insurance and my rates doubled...wished I had known...i would have re-registered at an out of state address again.

You don’t have to have insurance in the same state your car is registered in. I’m living proof. I have a LA tag and Oklahoma insurance. Never switched to this expensive louisiana insurance when I moved.
