Without telegraph or telephones, how did they know they were measuring at the same time? If they picked two locations that were due north/south of each other they could take the shadow measurement at high noon. Maybe that’s what they did.

Why did they assume the sun’s rays are parallel even when they’re demonstrably not? Why did they assume the sun is millions of miles away? Where did they prove that?
The light waves from your light aren’t parallel because it’s four feet away

Can we just take a second to appreciate that I rekt this oft-cited experiment so easily.
He says it assumes parallel rays. You can also google sun’s parallel rays and see that they are not.
No you fricking didn't

The sun's rays aren't literally perfectly parallel, but because they originate from so far away, anything that reaches us is very, very near parallel. When seen through a very small aperture like gaps between leaves, the fraction of a fraction of a degree difference is slightly noticeable. When viewed out in the open in regards to an object casting a full shadow, they are practically parallel. If you want to conceptualize the difference we're talking about here, go look at any really clear shadow and notice that the edges are ever so slightly fuzzy as opposed to sharp.
That's the difference we're talking about here. To assert that those differences are responsible for massively different measurements of shadow length borders on comical

but because they originate from so far away,
If we assume a near sun, it proves earth is flat
And they are NOT practically parallel.

That's just a theory man.

The amount of people on this board who say the earth is flat and aren’t trolling, make me embarrassed that I’m probably voting the same as they are.

Why doesn’t someone just take a ship and go around the earth and see if they fall off - surely there is an edge somewhere.

I can’t tell if you’re trolling with this question

When did Neil Diamond become an expert in Greek history?

If you have sailed across the ocean, when a ship appears on the far horizon, you only see top of the vessel first, and then you see the rest of the ship later. The burden of proof rests on the flat earth believers. I would guest that flat earth believers have an issue with reality.

Jet fuel can’t melt steel beams.

Not a flat earther and think they are dumb.
How did they know it was the exact same time to measure the shadows?

The easiest way is to just get on a plane and look out the window at altitude.
I love flat earth theory. It's so ridiculous I have no insecurity about getting into it ironically.

The fishbowl glass in the plane windows just makes it look round.

And crazy I know a supposedly "smart guy" who still thinks the earth is flat and there's a space in the middle of the earth where something happens (I can't remember what he said). I just tuned him out. We grew up together and reconnected last year and I'm surprised the stuff he's come up with.

If you fly due south from Chicago to Houston, which ocean is easier to see? How powerful does the telescope have to be for you to see the pyramids?
