Turkey is low key one of the most beautiful countries on Earth.
They also have more intact Roman ruins than Italy does, I’m going to assume because the country was fortunately never run by Italians

Turkey was a Roman colony

You know there’s like a couple of millennia difference between Romans and Italians right

And it was the seat of the Patriarch of Constantinople before that.
Of the original five patriarchs (Rome, Constantinople, Antioch, Jerusalem, and Alexandria), only one remained out of the clutches of the Islamic plague.

A lot of people don't realize that when "Rome" Fell, it was the western half of the empire that they refer to. The Eastern Empire continued to exist for much longer. During that time "Rome" still existed in the eastern empire. They had many of the same customs, used the same construction techniques, military order etc..
This is most likely why much of the Roman ruins are intact. They were maintained for much longer. Western Empire fell around the 470's while the Eastern Empire survived until the 1400's. If you would have gone to Constantinople during the dark ages, the people there, if asked would say they were Roman.

Diocletian knew what he was doing when he split and formed Byzantine.

Istanbul is an amazing city. Unlike the interior of the country, Istanbul and Ankara are secular/safe cities full of historical sites and hot women.

How amazing would it be to visit Constantinople had it not fallen

to the dirty Turks.
The irony of this statement is that Constantinople was sacked by Christian Crusaders a full 250 years before the Ottoman conquest.
Byzantium was irreparably weakened in the wake of the 4th Crusade and never really recovered economically or militarily... ultimately leading to its fall to the Turks 2.5 centuries later.
