Where would you recommend in the Northern part of the city?
How suburb vs urban vs gentrification do you want to be? answer honestly, whats your range and what size are you looking for? do you need a yard, garage, etc..

Yeah, no shite. I don't want to belabor it any more. I stand by my statement "for a city its size" (6 million people) and with regard to the actual "scene."
I basically dig a lot about the city, though.

I've lived in both, and would take Atlanta over Houston every time.
There's more to do around Atlanta than there is with Houston - you have the mountains not far away, GOOD to GREAT beaches not far away, and multiple other states to visit.
Houston...while a great city, just doesn't do it for me.
That said, I'd take Dallas over Atlanta, especially if you can live in Highland park...

Never stop Southerners from moving to Texas.

I'd take both over Dallas.

Atlanta doesn't have a food scene
I've never understood the whole "food scene" thing. Obviously you're gonna get better texmex in Texas than you would in Delaware, better lobster in maine than in Kansas, etc. But any big time city is going to have restaurants that serve really good food.

Park cities > Fort Worth > Atlanta > Houston > Rest of Dallas

Buckhead is basically the rich-people hub and is very, very nice and if that's where your office will be you can't go wrong since it seems like you'll be able to afford it. The biggest downside is traffic is hellacious, but again if you're close to work that shouldn't be TOO much of an issue.
As far as going north, Dunwoody is directly north of the perimeter and is also quite nice, and going west from there you have Sandy springs. Also Brookahven is directly next to Buckhead and quickly up-and-coming...home values are very high (in my opinion) but still not as high as buckhead, but you have less of the headaches of living in buckhead and are still close to all the good stuff. Schools in brookhaven are lacking though if that's a concern.

Sounds to me that the reason people are picking Atlanta in this thread is that the best thing it has going for it is that it's closer to other places they'd rather be instead of being in Atlanta

Buckhead > The Woodlands
The Woodlands is much further out than Buckhead. River Oaks is the right comparison
You can probably combine River Oaks with Upper Kirby since the Buckhead area includes the shopping and restaurants there too

Like Houston is some awesome bastion of fun and nonstop entertainment

They are both higher end, new development areas of their respective cities.

The weather and topography are huge for me so ATL all day. Grew up in NOLA burbs, school at LSU, siblings in both cities, been to HOU tons, live in ATL now. ATL is also 1,000 ft in elevation which takes some of the edge off as well. The big cities in TX all have the oppressive heat that make them deal breakers.

fair enough. I've never been to River Oaks or Kirby.

Every area in Houston is pretty much a new development area honestly. As far as proximity to the city Buckhead is like 1/3 the distance The Woodlands is
