Just an observation from this weekend’s Mardi Gras parades in Houma.

I feel that it is starting to take way too long for the parades to get to downtown.

Friday night Hercules started a 6 and didn’t make the turn onto Barrow until almost 10 or 11 pm. Then by the time the toasting was done the floats didn’t start passing until well after 11 pm. By the time the parade was over it was almost 1 am.

Same situation today, the parade started at noon and it didn’t get to downtown until almost 4 pm.

Distance wise the parades in Houma cover 4 and a half miles and New Orleans parades that are much longer and larger and cover more mileage don’t even take that long to get to the end.

They're tired from chasing the chickens. Give them a break.

They are long because they often have about 37 breakdowns before getting to the end.

Then stay home or leave early. Mardi Gras comes once a year, let us enjoy it.

4 hours to not even go 4.5 miles? Must be a lot of breakdowns.

At the Chalmette parade yesterday (and trust me, that parade is less organized than Zulu), the route is 6 miles. Our group was at the front and we were off the route in 2 hrs 45 min.

I wish it would be that easy.

Let’s say you are parent and your child is marching in the parade, would you want your child out that late for a parade.

And with the rescheduling of Aquarius for Monday night, some kids may not get home until 2 am on a school night. If they are still marching.

I don’t even understand the breakdown issues as instead of tractors they use Dodge Trucks to pull floats, so if breakdowns are engine related then remind me never to buy a Dodge.

Then don’t let them march in the parade.

You’re just bitching to bitch, now. That kid probably stays up later than that to talk and text on their phone. Get over it or don’t go.
The world isn’t changing to suit your preferences. And I guarantee you, if you were enjoying yourself, you wouldn’t give two shits about junior being out late.
