I travel at least a week a month – the next tip I leave will be my 1st – nobody tips me for my work. I had this discussion w some friends today and they are like wtf is a tip for hotel maid service – exactly
Im a single guy in a room you hardly know im there

same here and usually I'll get service maybe once in the middle of my stay if I'm gone for more than 4-5 days and get towels sent up...other than that, it's just not necessary unless you're eating everything in bed and spilling shite everywhere

I do some biblical shite to hotel rooms when i stay. Never even knew to tip. must be my upbringing
Posted on 7/30/14 at 5:54 pm to Brageous
Man, frick all that. I go on vacation like 2-3 times a year. Clean my shite up. If you want $2 for that, fine.

This is a new arse concept. It ain't your upbringing.

that's vacation and most of the time you are probably tearing up the room some...so yeah, clean my room...most of the time for me it is work and I'm not partying on the beach and getting sand everywhere

I thought tipping was reserved only for 5 star hotels?
Posted on 7/30/14 at 5:59 pm to Dodd
I prefer to tip a less nice places because I'm sure they make a lot less

I contemplated bringing my tooth brush with me so she doesn't retaliate being tipless by using it to clean the toilet.
A) Start packing old blue. Put your real toothbrush back in your bag in the morning and leave the decoy out.
B) I don't tip when travelling for work. Even for the times I forget to leave the DND sign on for the duration. I don't eat in my room, I don't leave clothes out, and I use the same towel all three days. They make my bed. Even going down their checklist, it has to be the easiest room they get all day. Sorry, I don't need the service, nor do I request it.
Would the hotel maid tippers in here double your usual tip at a restaurant if the waiter brought you a fresh straw after every sip of water?
There should be a hang tag for if you DO want housekeeping, not if you don't.

Are you guys allowed to expense restaurant or bar tips?
Yes. On our corporate CC

I leave the do not disturb sign out on the door. Hate it when they tuck in the sheets all snug. I can go 2-3 days with the same sheets.
You really thing someone is changing your sheets during room cleaning?

Yes. If my tip showed up on the hotel bill I would/could expense it. Or, I could simply write a hand written receipt for the $6-$10 a week for hotel tip. But i choose not to, so I don't look like I am nickel and dimeing the company.
BTW...I have NEVER been questioned on an expense account related matter in 20 years. $600.00 dinners, $1000.00 flights etc.

Have her change the sheets..better yet, get a sleeping bag.

I have to say while I am a Marriott guy I have been very pleased with the Hilton Garden Inns I have stayed at this year. Plus they have the balls to do a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Wish healthcare providers had the balls to do that.

Why do I have to justify doing a nice thing? What difference does it make to you?

I keep a clean room and don't get service every day, but damn, I will use a fresh towel.

I cannot stand these in the service industry. The last thing I want to see at check-in is some morbidly obese Duck Dynasty fan complaining that their room was not up to par because there was no HBO and that's false advertising.

So somebody please explian tip ediquate when it comes to housekeeping. Do you do it? If so how much? Is it performance based? Is it based on a 0-10 scale. With 0 being they never showed or showed only long enough to steal your watch and camera. and 10 being a happy ending while getting your towels bleached??

Here's the real version of what went on:

I'm not attacking people that tip housekeeping, I am defending non-tippers from the holier than thou crowd. I don't care what you do with your money.

It's habit. At the risk of starting a whole new discussion that pops up frequently on here,I use one towel for multiple showers at home, so I just hang the one from the hotel up and use it like I normally do. Sometimes I'll get a fresh one, but it's not something I think about, so I usually fall back to what's standard for me.
