Is this a new thing? Tipping maids at a hotel? I've actually never done it or even thought of doing it.

I had two Chinese broads cleaning my room at a place in SF, but I didn't tip them till I ran into them later that evening at a massage parlor in Chinatown. But frick, I wouldn't tip them for cleaning my room–context is everything here.

This is not a new practice. I imagine most people don't.

I always just assume they have stolen something from me anyway. Never thought to tip them.

yep, this is a seldom used twist on our frequently beaten to death topic on tipping, is it necessary, or is it just an American money grab? I think the latter, I stay in some of the nicest hotels, all over the world(company's dime,) and the service 24/7 is amazing, and not only is tipping unheard of, it's considered insulting i a lot of places

I don't tip hotel maids but I leave the room in order moving furniture back, make sure random trash and stuff in the trash can, throw all the towels on the floor. Also helps me make sure I'm not leaving anything

Put a note that says "housekeeping" on the dresser with money under it.

I guess so seeing how so many have never even heard of tipping the cleaning staff. Including me.

Leave her a note for tomorrow that says you are off to work so you can afford to pay for your room that gives her a job. Have a blessed day.

This is what you get when everyone thinks someone can live on eight bucks an hour.

Pay these frickers a decent wage and they'll stop begging.
