I don't think that is far enough north to avoid heat and crime. Doesn't hot springs proper have as much crime as BR?

no doubt I'll miss the marsh and the basin...but not the hurricanes...

MS I would imagine just about any good size community is like that...but the village is huge, gated and everyone looks out for each other...

It’s like 20 minutes from Hot Springs. Property right now is crazy, houses sell a lot of times before they hit the listing. Still semi affordable though

It’s a beautiful area, away from Louisiana, you have only a 1 in 81 chance of being a victim of crime, it has 98% one race for diversity so if you’re that race you should love it. It has 4 distinct seasons, which I would love, it has multiple, beautiful, clear water lakes, unlike LA.
It has 9 well maintained golf courses, a big tennis course complex, it’s THE largest gated community in the US, and 3% of home owners are single, so based on about 14,000 folks, you’d have about 500 other singles, should be at least one worth taking to eat, playing a round of golf with or taking a hike. I’d love to move there tomorrow

this is what I am learning. My husbands company has a lot of locations all in cities and we need to be within 1-2 hours of an international Airport. All of the options seem to have a good amount of crime but less murder than BR. So we are going to try 4 seasons and see if we like it.

We went on vacation there and loved the place. Beautiful scenery, clean lakes, good local restaurants, horse racing, and golf. Yeah, I could retire there

Mom and Dad lived there from 1992 till Dad died in 2018, then I moved Mom back to NELA to be near the few kinfolk she knows.

You'll be 20 minutes (maybe longer depending on which subdivision you end up in) from almost everything driving. Only 1 grocery store outside the front gate, a WalMart out the front, a couple of fast food places, DMV, all out the front gate. The Village does have several banks, churches, a hearing aid office that does good work, some pharmacies, gas stations, NP's and PA's and maybe 1 dentist. Everything else is in Hot Springs proper.

But, if you like quiet, rural living with lots of leisure available like golf, boating, and pickle ball it's there. You'll have wildlife in your yard daily. Deer, possum, raccoon, even an occasional bear, and some turkeys. Just gotta watch that POA with the increasing fees and stuff while trying to cut back. Old folks always stirring up stuff politically on local level too. You'll be paying school taxes for the non village residents kids too.

It snows a few times a year vs a few times a decade. And the tornados are scary AF in the spring

My parents were there a few years ago when a BIG snow/ice storm hit the entire state and physically took down part of the infrastructure. It was worse for electric repairs with crews having to traverse the mountains and valleys through forests to fix it all. Areas outside the Village went a couple months without but the Village has buried utilities for the most part.

The Village has had a few tornadoes through it too. Some have hit East of Diamonte. One female cop on their force was murdered by her boyfriend a few years ago at her home in the village. Also gotta watch out for the drugged out/drunk old folks who shouldn't be behind the wheel. Mom got hit at least twice and Dad once by those kind.

Incredible value for your dollar.

Absolutely no soul whatsoever. It seems a lot like Disney World. Hard for me to see how South Louisiana folks could live there.

I don’t think I’m gonna give much of a shite about “soul” when I retire. I want nice, clean, safe, and functioning without the moral decay and corruption that I’ve lived in/among in cities like BR, NOLA, Houston, etc.
if no soul means crime is low, homeless aren’t begging me for a quarter, and the local government can actually keep the streets clean, I’ll take it.
