They’ll never publicly say it, but I guarantee you Lafayette SWAT will have some very bad blood with the bullshite Jeanerette City Marshals moving forward. They got called in because a shitstain agency that shouldn’t exist was doing things in the worst way possible and one of Lafayette’s best was killed due to it. A man was killed today over something that wasn’t even his jurisdiction’s issue.

They’ll squash it publicly but behind the scenes I know it’s hot right now.

Completely agree, RIP to the officer and condolences to his family. JPD could not handle the situation and called in LPD to do the dirty work. Terrible situation

if there is no risk of a defendant destroying evidence or hurting an innocent party, I'm all for law enforcement staking out a property and moving on the defendant when he is away from the premises. It seems like a recipe for disaster going to pull somebody out of his home when that level of risk is not necessary.

Well to be fair, the JPD is pretty darn small.

HOW is it that 4 lafayette swat team members got wounded(2 shot and 2 from bullet fragments) and a 5th one dead.

There were 2 other swat teams there and the Marshall's from Jeanerette unscaved.

How is it that one pos baracaded in a trailer get 5 officers? The news said they forced their way inside of the trailer. One officer dead and now somebody's family is just destroyed over this. Why would LEO's force their way into that trailer when they couldn't "control" the situation without this type of result ? How in the world did this criminal survive this but he manages to wound 4 swat members and kills another?

Just trying to understand?

After deputies arrived, two people came out of the residence and said Hurst was inside; Hurst then proceeded to barricade himself and two others, one being a juvenile.

During the standoff, the suspect fired multiple shots at officers; two officers were shot, and bullet fragments hit the other two officers, according to the Lafayette Police Department.

Lafayette Police said one officer died as a result of the incident; the other three officers are currently in good condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials said the incident began when the the City Marshal attempted to serve an arrest warrant at the hom

Nyjal was wanted at the time by the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office for attempted first degree murder in a drive-by shooting. Court records also show he was arrested in Lafayette Parish in July 2023 for numerous charges including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to law enforcement, Hurst was known to have outstanding arrest warrants for Jeanerette Police Department for aggravated second degree battery and home invasion. The Marshal’s Office said the suspect also has arrests warrants for St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office for armed robbery, illegal use of weapons, attempted car jacking, domestic abuse battery child endangerment by strangulation, and two counts of aggravated battery.

You never choose a leader braver than yourself.

The want to be a hero? Being a badass on Call of Duty? Way to much risk and very little reward for situations like this. It's Louisiana in July. Turn the power off. They'll come out eventually.

Plain and simple this POS shouldn’t have been free. Until our judiciary system is fixed, this will continue to happen. Families will continue to be changed forever because of senseless people like this animal.
