Hospital pushing discharge for my 70 y/o parent who is COVID positive and hasn't improved

My 70 y/o mom was hospitalized w/ pneumonia in both lungs and subsequently tested positive for COVID 3 days ago. She is still running fever, not eating, unable to move around her her own and is generally not feeling well, but the hospital is really pushing for a discharge. I get the impression it is because she isn't having problems breathing. How can it be OK to discharge someone who tested positive and is still running fever etc and not showing signs of improvement (only stable at best)? This particular hospital is not crowded and has open beds. She is insured so it is not a payment issue.

I can't tell if I'm just being overly concerned because it's my mom, or if something is up. Thoughts?

If you don't mind me asking, what hospital discharged her? Ochsner/Touro?

She hasn't been discharged yet, but they are planning to tomorrow unless something worsens.

Are they saying they expect her to die? Would they like to let her die at home and possibly infect anyone who chose to visit before she passed on?

Tell them that you want her to stay in there and aren't ready for her to be discharged. They can't force her out if she has the virus, has pneumonia in both lungs and is not eating (and most importantly, not showing signs of improvement).

Most people on here won’t have a case in their communities and won’t know a single person with the virus.

Crazy, right?"

You can refuse discharge.

We have parents who go that route.

Not at all... they keep saying she's doing fine because nothing is getting worse.

Was definitely wrong on that one point.

Did not expect LA to get as crushed as they are.

It has been over 101 for at least the last 24 hours. They are giving Tylenol which is not helping / lasting much.

If nothing is getting worse, does that mean she's getting better?

I’ll say a prayer for and your family

It will work out

I think I’d rather be by moms side at home before she passed then her being in some hospital that I don’t have access to and she dies alone

No.

Stability does not imply improvement.

I understand that lol, but if she isn't improving, she shouldn't be discharged

You and practically everyone else. Wouldn’t beat yourself up over it.
