Hospital overload in Louisiana is it COVID or is it pent up elective surgery demand?

The hospitals in Louisiana appear to be at capacity not because of an influx of new COVID patients but rather due to the rescheduling of thousands of elective surgeries in March, April and May. Well those elective surgeries are what's causing the actual hospital capacity issue because they were rescheduled to start the procedures again over the last couple of weeks.
I wish one so-called Journalist would ask one of these idiot politicians this question because the politicians know its not new COVID patients taking up all the hospital beds.

Guy from my town got sent to Jackson MS this week because there were no open ICU beds in Shreveport or Ellick.

BR hospitals are at capacity due to shortage of personnel. There are still some ICU beds, but not enough trained nurses to cover all of them.
And there ain't no elective surgeries taking place in BR - emergency stuff only.

Looks like Louisiana is using 73% of available beds with 15.8% of those having Covid.

How is that? There were 345 COVID patients in the Baton Rouge Region on April 23 and today there is 219.

Lake Charles area are taking patients from orange Texas.

Unlikely.
there's still a finite limit to daily case capacity for most ORs. Just because the cases were rescheduled, doesn't necessarily mean that the OR or surgeons were booking cases at some 2x-3x rate to make up the backlog. It really doesn't work like that.
A lot of if not majority of elective cases are outpatient anyway/home same day/short few day hospital stays. In combo with the above, I doubt the elective surgery cases have had a huge impact on overall capacity.
Most regions are experiencing a surge of Covid-19 cases with resulting increased admissions. It is what it is. Eventually it will flatten out and start to decrease again.
