That’s awful.
We drove that stretch between Montgomery and Mobile Friday afternoon in bad rain coming back from Atlanta. Rain was bad enough for a while that most folks slowed down and had their flashers going.

I-65 during the summer vacation series is worse than the Talladega 500, especially on weekends when most people are coming from or going to the beach. The problem is you have those who want go 90 MPH mixed in with those who want to go 70 or less. And on top of that you’ve got a shite ton of big trucks that at best might do 70 downhill trying to pass a truck that is doing 68 and a half and taking 5 miles to do it.
That coming home is probably the most dangerous factor. Impatient. Been ready to get home but still have a few hours. Folks getting crabby. Tired and lacking in alertness. Jeez. That wreck leaves me with a depressed feeling. Someone said earlier that any "coulda been me" joke should be off limits which of course is exactly right, but taking that statement literally, think of the cars immediately before or after. Any inconceivably minor thing(s) causing a mere 30 seconds or minute delay or ahead of schedule.....it literally coulda and probably woulda been them.
All that to say how fleeting life can be.
Over n out.

fricking piece of shite people tailgaiting. I hate those motherfrickers so much.
And the assholes who, if you’re not tailgating and leave a little space between the car in front of you, they speed up and whip over in front of you with barely any space between you and the car in front of them. That shite makes me want to pull over and fight. Impatient, ignorant fricks... Also, dumbasses going slow in the left lane who hold up traffic and build up a line of congestion behind them making things more dangerous for everyone are pricks too.

Probably about to do that.

I'd find it hard to believe that your cruise control would kick off as fast as you would remove your foot from the accelerator, which as a reflex would be instantaneous in most situations.
But if it takes even a second or two for cruise to turn off, that's all it takes to panic and do something instigating a terrible turn of events. Overcorrecting, simply just freezing up not immediately registering what's happening, etc.

Which, coincidentally is why the myth is perpetuated indirectly.
There’s no possible quicker reaction than letting your foot off the gas. You can’t do that with cruise control on.

Slow traffic doesn't mean you have to ride someones arse.
if you do, you deserve all that comes to you, whether an arse whooping or a crash.

Internet tough guy.
I don't tailgate. I also don't drag-arse in the left lane.

I find most people are not paying attention, coupled with the left lane cruising and oblivious to their surroundings. Just got back from a road trip and the damned truck driving is atrocious as well, most of them don’t care about surrounding traffic either. What I noticed a lot is people with newer vehicles, that I know have the hands free technology, still talking with the phone at their ears or worse looking directly at their phone. I know my tendency to speed but my head is on a swivel at all times and my attention is on the surrounding traffic. It’s a sad situation and probably one that could’ve been avoided with just a little sense of awareness.

Interstate driving sucks for this reason. Big rigs eat up the road and are not too concerned about other traffic. Plus, they'll almost hire anyone and stick them behind the wheel these days.
Posted on 6/20/21 at 7:21 am to RogerTheShrubber
Yeah, watching them speed up to pass another rig, like smaller vehicles do, always gets my attention. Some of those clowns are maniacs!

All true. Drove that stretch on Friday and couldn’t believe the traffic. Don’t ever remember it being that bad, but maybe I never traveled it in the summer.

Terrible to hear of these wrecks.
Stay safe out there folks.

Last night I searched Google news for specifics on this wreck. Not much, but lots and lots of other wrecks to chose from.
The three wrecks within 50 miles of Knoxville in a two day span that closed three different interstates for at least a total of 17 hours didn't merit a mention because we got lucky and no mass fatalities.
The girls in that van cause sadness just thinking about them and their families.

There's definitely a run on vacations right now, probably moreso than in a long time. Basically 2 years worth of vacationers in a single year.
