Video shows the terrifying moment a carnival ride in Michigan spun out of control — as festival goers rushed to stabilize the dangerous attraction.

The Magic Carpet Ride at the 95th Annual National Cherry Festival in Traverse City began swaying wildly Thursday night, with about 10 passengers hanging on for dear life while they swirled dozens of feet in the air, according to dramatic footage and reports.

As the ride appeared to begin to come off its foundation and tip backward, about a dozen fairgoers rushed over to grab the fencing around the base of the ride to use their weight to keep it from falling over, viral clips of the near-disaster showed.

The ride looks really off balanced too.

Comedy may be dead, but drama is alive and well. Nobody would have died if it had tipped over. It was a 20-25 foot fall at most for people buckled in to a ride. Humans survive 25 foot falls.

Also, it was pretty cool to see all the people come to help out. I think there is an expectation that if you go to a carnival you may have to help stop an out of control ride.

Im thinking it would’ve tipped backwards so everyone strapped on the ride would have been on their backs still strapped. The people trying to hold it down on the other hand, would have gotten flung around, hit by shrapnel, or crushed some kind of way.

Because the ride itself weighs nothing and will definitely not crush anyone it lands on

Yeah, god bless the people who ran over to stabilize it. I would have run out of there unless I had a family member on it.

Nobody was behind the ride. The ride wouldn’t hBe fallen on anyone that was on the ride. I am one of those realist that doesn’t overdramatize everything.

if that thing tipped from the top of it's run (where it was really leaning the highest), you'd have a LOT of power that people in confined cages would have to absorb. people die falling down and hitting their heads, i imagine at least a couple people (especially if they landed on their back) would have their brains smashed out on the cement

Wow. Someone clearly didn't properly support that ride and needs to be fired immediately.

I’m amazed they weren’t all filming it on their phones.
