I don’t get getting the Bugatti. Doesn’t seem like it could help his channel enough.
Ed and Tyler getting them seems to be a combination of 2 things.
1. Dream car-itis
2. They both understood the market and sold off cars that had appreciated in the post-Covid inflationary period (that is now dead). They had to roll all that equity into something.
I don't really watch either as much these days, but on Hoovie's videos I like to see all the shite that can go wrong with cars so I skip to the mechanic parts.
VinWiki seems to have almost run out of stories worth a shite. They put out a LOT of content for a while.
My favorite car content channel now is probably Flying Wheels b/c it is a lot more grounded/real

I also slightly assume that the “tax problem” he has is just made up for the channel, and there’s no way he doesn’t have some sort of financial advisor who’d keep him from going into a $100k+ tax situation.
I don't know the details of it, but the IRS fricked Stradman and pulled the rug out and if the same thing happened to Tyler it could get him a huge bill

What happened to Stradman?
Don’t watch many of his videos as I don’t like getting yelled at the entire video. His GF is a hammer tho.

I can't remember the exact details. I'll look it up in a second, but I think they nixed how he expensed the cars. Like maybe he was doing depreciation or they said his lease wasn't of a business asset, etc.
CPA video on it

Funny enough, I don't really like his videos either. HOW-EVER, the Iced Coffee Hour podcast recently did all the car guys (Stradman, Tavarish, Hoovie, Bolian, DeMuro, etc.) and Stradman was 100% normal in the video.
I almost made a thread about how fake he and the "Youtube voice" is after this interview.

Strad's Koenigsegg lease is running him something like $36,000 per month, he recently did a video where his monthly expenses is around $70,000 per month.
I really don't understand these guys getting into these hypercars outside of dream car status, though I'm convinced Ed thinks he can speak the value of Veyrons into appreciation and Hoovie is just along for the ride.
I do enjoy their content though, Ed, Hoovie, Tavarish, Matt Armstrong, Big Time, Donut Media, etc. all put out some good stuff.
Still a bit irritated that Tavarish is ditching the hybrid system on the P1, I'll still follow along just to see it through to completion(one day) but he's getting alot of shite for ditching the hybrid components.

It's a combination of Youtube money and leasing them to write it off and owning your dream car at an incredible discount.
If you can make a Youtube channel of your hobby profitable, it's a way to write off the cost of that hobby. Cars, movies, clothes, cooking, whatever.

I don't think I've followed a Tavarish build to completion since the turbo charged Gallardo and I think that was pre-Covid. It just gets to be SO MUCH and I watch these cars for content slightly above brain rot status (you learn SOMEthing)

I've gotten to the point that I sort of hate-watch his channel. The TT Gallardo and Fast & Furious Murcielago were probably his last great builds that were easy to follow along with and had some continuity, though I don't think he ever 100% completed the Gallardo and its always in the background covered in dust. The Murci got sold off to fund the P1 build but he's got the second movie car stored away somewhere that was used in the stunt show that has a POS v6 in it, but he also already owns the engine/trans that originally came from that car.
Since then its just been random projects or starting something and never really completing it, or completing it and it just being some longform "I'm done with XYZ" video instead of a followable series. That dude just has entirely too many projects going at once.

Derek is great and very self depreciating which I like.

I did watch bits and pieces of that and he basically said that the Stradman persona is for YT only and he’s James everywhere else.
If he did his videos as himself they would be easier for me to watch.

Hoovies old lady just put out a video where she bought a house in AZ for the both of them so I guess he’s doing alright.

It’s probably embellished but I could see where if you made way more money the next year you could end up messing up quarterly estimates.
He certainly built a nice spread for a car enthusiast but that was a lot of money to drop at once.
