They wanted to keep it, but the lease was expiring.

THIS is why we have "muh guns" with "high capacity clips" and "automatic assault rifles" that look military and scary and black. This is why our Second Amendment right to bear arms shall not be infringed.

We the People can and will defend our own rights and those of our fellow citizens against those who would try to pacify us and threaten life, liberty, and property.

an extradition law that basically undermined all of HK's judicial system and let their citizens be swept away to the mainland at the whim of Beijing

so like if you get a speeding ticket you get sent to China, something like that???

....poor people. The Iron Curtain is about to descent on those folks. The Chicoms will win and they are fully willing to bust some heads imposing tyranny.

Pay attention America.

I am always amused by the cowards who downvote something so obvious, yet don't want to refute the statement.

I think it would be more like - post negative thoughts about the regime on a blog and get arrested/sent to China. The bigger concern is that things that are illegal for mainland China (no freedom of press, speech, etc.) become illegal in Hong Kong if they can force your extradition.

ETA: someone please correct me if I am mistaken

You can see the shadows of the other protestors behind her. She's simply stepped into the no mans land between the crowd, and the police.

To the extent it's sold as one vs. many, sure, it's misleading.

That said, if we require photographers to capture full context in every photo we're going to miss out on a lot of powerful art and photojournalism.

To me there is a big difference between

"There was a large crowd of protestors, and a large militaristic police force, and this single woman stepped into the gap and I got what I believed was a powerful image, blah blah blah"

vs.

"There was this massive police response to this innocent, single woman and it portrays the reactionary and hostile response by police."

You have any idea what the Chinese military would do to those protesters if the protesters were shooting at them?

This. It would take some type of internal collapse/ Coup to take down that regime( Soldiers refuse orders to fire) The same here in the U.S.

Some armed citizens with rifles aren't going to defeat these powerful militaries alone.

Yes, I do.

Do you have any idea what would happen if an armed populace of a billion people saw what happened when it did?

The "you can't take on an army with a rifle" is stupid. One individual or a few hundred do not win a conflict. The threat of an armed populace deters the military from doing anything stupid in the first place.

China is the new Nazi Germany.

Millions upon millions will be ruthlessly slaughtered in the coming years and it will take a world war to put a stop to it.

Now is not a good time to be a 14-17 year old boy in America (or anyone living in or near China).

For perspective, the horse races have been going on as scheduled, and there's a big Dragon boat festival underway right now

This is counter productive. These riots are to protest the government allowing extradition to the mainland. What's going to happen is HK will just have the People's Army come in and take over.

They are battling for themselves and their problem is Xi Jinping's paranoia. If the protesters gain ANY concessions China suddenly may have to worry about other parts of China whose throats they have been stepping on for years.
