My dad gave me 10k for my honeymoon, I did a cheap all inclusive for 3k and put the other 7k in the market right after my wedding when it was in the tank(2008ish).

6 years later that 7k is enough for the down payment on the vacation house we are getting.

Just something to think about when taking that expensive honeymoon

And another burn in my sides....

In 2009 we purchased our first home and received the $8k tax credit. You know, the one that you never had a pay a cent back if you stayed in the house for at least three years.

My wife and I discussed investing it for our future and decided that we needed a new couch, new bed, down payment on a family vehicle, and a trip to California.

Oh to be young and ignorant again....

I go to the Bahamas to sit on the beach and literally do nothing, so yes.

I can't do this for more than 2 days. I'm a see-er and do-er.

Went here for our honeymoon about a year ago and spend a total of $3500 on everything!!! Airfare and all. Really a good spot and very low key, no pressure to do anything you don't want. We went to the Tower Island resort.

You have time to save, but you're gonna need about $3500- 4000 to really open your options on resorts and places like you're looking for that are still considered "lower budget".

$4000 will get you a very option filled, memorable honeymoon and you still save $1500 less than the other trip you mentioned.

And that's the issue. For a guy's trip, sure all this cost saving stuff is great. For a honeymoon, no way.

And this. If I'm paying $2k to go to another country, I'm not sitting around doing nothing for a week. Got to at least get some golf in

Me too.

I actually tried to on my honeymoon....but I ended up at the fish market later in the afternoon .

Cooking fresh fish on your patio grill, in a tropical environment, with a cold beverage is something we enjoy no matter the occasion.

For a weekend in Destin, I'm down. But I'd regret dropping a lot of money to do that at some other beach. Might be prettier to look at, but beach is beach.

I did Florida Keys/Key West with Brag. He used his points so we had free flights and free hotel, so it was definitely worth it. But there is only so much you can do for an entire week on a 4-mile island. Halfway through, we were napping and laying around without much to do. And this is after booking everything we could think of, activity wise.

We did a couple fishing trips on our honeymoon, nothing like walking off the boat with a bag of freshly caught bull dolphin and walking into a restaurant 100 yards away where they cook it for you

Hawaii was nice but I liked New York way better.

This does not sound like you brought a folding rod with you and fished for free

Groupon Getaways.

That's how I did mine. We went to Costa Rica for a total cost of about $1800, minus what we spent on food and zip lining and other activities while we were out there. We left on Sunday night and came back the following Saturday. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
