I am not really into the idea of a lay-around honeymoon either, but holy shite! I'd come home completely exhausted.

Driving doesn't bother me that much. You could always choose to spend two days at each spot if you had the time.

A 5 hour drive would be difficult, but 3 hours? Out the door by 9am, there by noon, enjoy the day until 6ish, 7ish, and then eat, drink, and pass out on top of each other by 10 or 11?

Sounds good to me but my wife and I enjoy road trips!

yes

cook at the house, go hiking, relax at beach, etc

not everything costs money

So let's assume $800 for airfare, which is probably low. You're going to need at least another $700 for accommodations to secure anything decent for the week. That puts you at $1500 without renting a car, buying groceries, or booze.

I can eat for $100 for a week easily if I cook for myself

not everyone drinks...

who said you had to rent a car?

obviously this wouldn't be a luxury honeymoon, but it can be done

Who is not drinking on their honeymoon? Please be realistic here.

And how are you buying groceries without renting a car or taking taxis everywhere? You know I'm right

I agree it could be done, but you'd really have to work at keeping it cheap.

The bottomline is $2k is getting you a shite honeymoon in the Caribbean. I think we can all agree on that.

You can't even cruise for that unless you want to be in one of the rooms with no window.

Many of the hotels we stayed at in CR were $100 or less a night.

Well how much time do you actually spend in the room?

Enough that I want to wake up to sunlight and not pitch black. Enough that having a balcony is worth the extra money.

I agree with your sentiment, but I'm just saying it's not that big of a deal to some people.

My point also is people keep telling the OP to spend extra here or go all out, and he clearly doesn't want to.

A hotel won't even have a kitchen. Now you're eliminating saving money by cooking your own meals. You're kind of helping my point

It is once you've done it both ways.

ETA: Not disagreeing with you. That is obviously a personal sentiment.

Ain't nothing wrong with a little "room time" on a honeymoon.

I don't think it's that. I think he just wanted a realistic idea of what $2k could get him. no sense in lying to him. My first post said if he has the money, he should spend it for his honeymoon. This isn't the vacation to half arse IMO.
