Edit: early post sorry about that.

I'm going over the reasons why Blacks have not created a successful nation. First off, success is relative. That said, we should have more developed nations in Africa (at least transitioning from post industrial to modern countries).

I realize that slavery and European colonialism have caused major setbacks but they alone are not enough to fully encapsulate the issue.

Edit 2: I believe that the problem lies in that Western Blacks do not want to embrace their heritage by returning to the African continent. With the knowledge we have gained from America and Europe, it should only take a few generations to turn Africa from predominantly developing countries into component modern nation states.

Some if the issue could be cultural disconnect. Most Westernized Blacks see no reason to rebuild a homeland that sold them into slavery. Then there is African culture regarding political groups. I've meet many bright individuals from countries like Nigeria, Ethiopia, etc. And they remark how unstable the political climate is in their countries. Many bright individuals dont have the chance to move up the social ladder because of the authoritarian regimes in power.

Having said all of this, I think there is a unique indifference as to why we dont have a "Black Germany" or other similarly strong predominantly Black nation. Some African countries are developing quite well given the resources that they have.

Africa's problem is brain drain. Any native that has sense and gets educated hauls arse away from Africa as fast as possible leaving behind a continent with a major deficit of educated intelligent people.

Seriously, there have been several countries in Africa that had the opportunity to become wealthier nations with the aid of the US. There are oil rich nations in Africa that the US wanted to go into and before they did, they wanted these countries to work with them in improving the quality of life there (the oil companies wanted safer environments for their workers), but those nations thought it was the US' attempt to force them to "Americanize" so they didn't agree to work with the Americans.

China came along and said "oh so you don't want anyone telling you that you need to improve quality of life? That's cool. Go ahead and live in as shitty conditions as you like. We are just going to come in, hire all chinese workers, take your oil, give yall just enough money to keep yall happy enough so that no one will frick with us".

BTW, the oil there is rich.. So the chinese is able to get better oil for cheaper..

There are a lot of countries that were world powers back in the day, like Egypt. Greece, Roman Empire, Spain come to mind. And while those are not third-world countries today they have nowhere near the influence they once had. So it's not just African nations.

But I think Africa's problems today can be attributed to:

1. Drought and other natural issues
2. Overpopulation
3. Rampant corruption in government
4. Radical Islamists

The setback for African nations was the simultaneous loss of what could have been a cheap labor force and over reliance on European powers to gain wealth instead of focusing on domestic sources of wealth. Why try to develop a better mining or agricultural process when can just sell X number of defeated tribes for some quick gold.
