my daughter barely escaped that wall of death. she went from opioids when she was in HS right in front of our noses onto more and more. Was treated locally. Relapsed. relapses are the worse b/c they come with such guilt and the user overuses because of the guilt, also thinking their tolerances are as stout as before treatment. we realized she would never change living at or near home. got her treatment in AZ. she is now 4 years from heroin. lives in a beautiful western state and is prospering. thank you father in heaven because i could not protect her.

There has been a huge shift in demographics check or the addict. It's as likely to be a neighbor than someone in the trailer park.

RIP, Bella, and I hope her family finds peace. American opiate addiction is a crisis.

my best childhood friend lives in AZ and was fighting the same issues. He's now 8yrs sober, at peace, and has a beautiful child.

I would agree up until it becomes a physical addiction. At that point its most definitely a disease.

You better hope and pray that your life is never affected by addiction. It is a disease that is physical, mental, and spiritual. If you don't believe that, I hope for your sake that you never come to believe it.

i don't believe its a disease. its a weak mind that can't say no

Abuse is not a disease. Addiction definitely is a disease.

This. This must be the most painful fact for those who love a person with addiction.

It's pretty proven that addiction is a physical response to a certain thing... This can be treated.

Of course it's much easier to throw everyone in jail rather than treat the addiction.

Took me awhile to realize the difference between the two.

Honestly.

This. It's just as likely that it's someone's daughter here that this could happen to.

It's not confined to the poor/working class.

Not true. Most likely, someone you know is struggling with some sort of addiction problem and you have no idea about it.

If it was a heart attack bc she weigh 4bills and was a sugar addiction; I think OT response would be different.
