quote:Yea, that's the one part where it's tricky.
They produce a fake lease.
They're getting sophisticated with these schemes and many apparently have these fake leases, and I imagine makes it pretty tough for a street cop on the beat to try and discern what is what.
It would just be nice to have it fast tracked through the system.
Another thing I'd argue that could maybe at least help with this, why does the squatter get to keep living in the house? I mean, I get that the eviction thing and not being able to evict is the entire idea. But if I say I live in that house, and they say they live in that house, and it's specific to a squatter's right issue, it seems fair that both parties would need to vacate the property until the courts decide what is what. I imagine that can be a slippery slope for shitty renters to take advantage of too, but just a thought.

Easy fix.
When cops show up and they produce a lease - cop tells them “ok we’re going to check this out. If we find out it’s fake you will do 7 days in jail for every one day starting now that it takes us to research”.
If laws were passed like that then those fakers would move out fast.

"Hey if you vote me into office I will help pass laws that have zero effect on me but will let you live in someone else's home for virtually free"
What's so hard to understand here? It's a business transaction.
These are not new laws.

So they're not being arrested for unlawful entry. Once it goes through the courts, it is determined the lease is fake, so why are they only being evicted? They should have some kind of forgery charges coming down on them to.
And to your point, to deter this, the penalties for this forgery in a squatter type situation should be extremely harsh.

God what absolutely moronic laws in place up there.
I mean what is the plus to squatter's rights? Either you own it or you dont. Do renters have the same right in an apartment complex?
It makes ZERO sense to me why squatters were ever allowed to be a thing.

In common law, it was to dissuade absentee landlords who weren't putting property to efficient use.

With this law in effect, I would seriously seek the services of a local mob or gang and pay a few thousand dollars to get squatters out of a property I owned.
No details- just get them out!

Liberals will change the law to make the fake lease real and the real lease is fake. Book it.

Meanwhile on Reddit they are whining about high rent costs in CA & NY

Eh, I've got news for you. The laws in Kentucky (and in most other states) are not dissimilar. You have to go through the legal eviction process, even for squatters.

In the old days when property records were incomplete or nonexistent, somebody could show up with a fraudulent deed and kick you off your land. Or you homesteaded a piece of land on the frontier, years later someone claims it belongs to them via a colonial land grant.
And there’s the idea of “putting land into commerce” to avoid properties just sitting there falling apart and being unused by absentee faraway owners. Which I think is bullshite but that’s the reasoning.

Do these people put "$0" in rent to be paid on the fake lease?
It's an abomination to society that politicians let this shite continue.

could you just beat the sh!t out of them, and then say that you were there, at your own house, conducting maintenance, and they threatened you. self defense? seems easier and they probably would leave after an arse whooping

Just shoot the mfers in the face and be done with it. I would rather defend myself for protecting my property than argue with a bunch of democrats trying to protect burglars and con artists that burglarized and vandalized my property. You already know that I’m about to do something and probably to jail if the cops don’t do anything.
Seriously WTF is going on in these places??

As illegal squatters taking over homes across Southern California grow increasingly common, one man has dedicated his life to fighting those squatters and protecting homeowners.
