Mikelbr is right. It was a shove.
I wasn't there that night but got this first hand from people who were. I was supposed to be there but had something come up. I was told he was shoved and it was because he was being aggressive with the girl. I have just forgotten that part over time. Shoved or punched doesn't change any of the facts though.
