Most likely just hopped on I-10. There are plenty of places he could've been headed from Miami.
ETA: I don't think it is much of a stretch to assume he was leaving America though.

It is easy to second guess their decision now but you can't go through life expecting the worst of people. Such a sad story and it sucks that someone could do this to a couple who had done nothing but help them.

I mostly forgot but thought one referenced an 11 AM news conferece (which another poster still has up) and another post talking about the perp's wife being in on it.
