Yes, at the old job we had a manager get fired as well. Dude was walking into work and some ladies ran into him in the doorway spilling stolen product. One punched him and they pushed by. Dude didn't even know what was going on.

It was pretty chicken shite of them to fire him, but they didn't like him even though his performance was good.

The home Depot in Kenner usually has a Kenner Police car near the front door. I always figured that one reason he is there is if there was a shoplifter, store personnel would tell him and he would stop the person.

Honest people would be amazed at how some exploit the 'don't interfere' stance stores take

Sadly store employees can point out habitual shoplifters yet can do nothing about it

exactly. It is a liability issue. Sort of entices the shoplifters to be more aggressive though and that eventually comes out of our pockets. the stores need more cameras and security guards; but, that costs moolah. What a world????? A friend of mine who was head of HR of a large retail company spent more time before the EEOC testifying when the company fired employees caught red-handed stealing off the racks and/or shorting the cash register. The SOB employee shoplifters had the nerve to scream discrimination when they were fired........

I used to work in retail, and we had the same policy. We would just watch them and call the cops. If we physically intervened, we were fired. The company does not want to be held liable if someone gets hurt. To be honest, that was probably better. I was not about to get into it with some ghetto trash over a $50 shirt while being paid $10/hour.

Same here. This policy isn't new. I worked in retail in the late 80s and this was a policy then.

It's so employees don't sue HD if they get injured. HD corporate (and every other corporate entity) doesn't care about employee safety. They care about the liability.

This. However, I have seen managers confront people they observed shoplifting just to let them know they were aware of what they were doing, had it on camera, and highly suggested they put stuff back. Just because they typically don't report loss of items less than $500 doesn't mean they won't if they catch you in the act or have it on camera.

Used to enjoy going to a Venture store on Skillman in the 90's because they had off duty Dallas cops that worked security. They would chase shoplifters into the parking lot, and take them down. Christmas brought out a lot of desperate folks trying to steal toys for their kids.

That store turned into a K-Mart when Venture went out of business. The location had a fairly new Home Depot when I left Dallas in 2010.

It's epidemic locally. The few crackheads just walk in and walk out with what they want. No need to even be in a hurry

I think I'll just demand the cashier hand over $499. I'm lazy.

The mgr of the Home Depot on airline gave me a gator grip pipe fitting after closing one night because I arrived late in a rush and knocked on the door when I saw him by a register. My pipes had froze and busted on a corner. I offered to give him cash since the registers were down already and he couldn’t do a transaction anymore. He said just take it, and next time I think about going to Lowe’s keep Home Depot in mind. Haven’t been in a Lowe’s since then, that’s was like 4 years ago. HD are some good baws even if their founder is a dirty falcon

I have a friend who managed a "Cash loan" finance company's office in South Dallas. He got robbed at gunpoint one day. Complied with the robbers, gave them money, and jewelry from the store. He said that's what the company instructed them to do. At the end of the month the owner didn't pay him a bonus he had earned, because of the burglary.

I always tell my wife that I have never left a homo depot happy. Absolutely the worse home improvement store I have ever been in. So this does not surprise me

thats why cops prey on affluent white people going 5mph over the speed limit rather than patrol the projects looking for people selling crack.
Yep, another reason why they want to keep the weed illegal, as it is easy to deal with some peaceful stoners, rather than try and arrest some meth heads.
