I ain't even close to a do it yourself person but i don't believe it's too hard. Maybe a day's worth of work.

Step 1: Get load of native stone

Step 2: Stack said stone in circle to desired height

Step 3: Add wood

Step 4: Light wood

Step 5: Show off your manly skill

That firepit is a kit that comes with a metal liner. All you do is cement the stones together with construction adhesive and slip in the metal pit. You can do it. $190

Make sure that you use fire-rated bricks. If you don't, at best your bricks will gradually crumble from the extreme temperatures...at worst, your bricks might even explode (yes, explode...Google it) from the heat.

Explode?

Sweet, it's like an evening fire and a show!

I just used these stones I bought at Home Depot. Did not dig a pit but I did level it out. Made a circle about 3 high. Making sure you have a little spacing for air flow. Threw some lava rocks in the bottoman and that was it.

No I didn't. I dug a hole and placed lava rock at the bottom. Then I placed the stone around that. It has been great.

I have built several. They are not hard. The most difficult on was incorporated into a large patio (20x45) that I poured and had a pit toward the end. On that one I had to have a drainage system for rain and a passive air supply to make sure it would burn well.

If you are half way handy you can do it.

level the ground
build concrete form
mix quickcrete
pour (placed wire mesh for reinforcement)
allow to dry
place blocks and use construction adhesives
Total cost > $200
form and pour took 3 hrs
stacking blocks and adhesive (~2hrs, i didnt use their pattern, wanted a bigger pit)

Note I also built 3 benches to go around it using the block... same recipe as above...
