I’m not anti-Holiday, but I actually enjoy being off when others are working. When I take off during the week, it’s usually on Tuesday to avoid crowds at golf course, etc. I prefer to eat out at breakfast, the earlier the better. The day after thanksgiving is so crowded at golf course and stores, etc that I just stay home or just practice golf- or play 9 later to avoid the crowd.

I basically have everything I want and I’m not a gifter because I have no clue what to buy anyone. I’ll usually try to find an experience like a show or a trip to gift family.

Last year, I basically skipped thanksgiving due to a series of events. Nobody on the golf course, but me that afternoon. Had a sandwich for supper. Enjoyed the low stress day.

Do any of you just wish you could skip the holidays sometimes?

We give gifts to some family members that I barely know. I want nothing from them. I don’t dislike them, I just don’t have much to do with them. No animosity. They just mean very little to me.

I would skip every holiday if I could, but I do have a wife, kids, and some special family members who enjoy the traditions, etc. I enjoy seeing them, but I would enjoy seeing them in September or May too.

I’m not a grinch. I even enjoy watching Christmas movies like Elf and Its a wonderful life.

I love Thanksgiving. Its Christmas without presents.

I love food, football, booze, and family.

I just hate the materialism of xmas.

We get it. You like to play a lot of golf. Alone.

Yes. Especially with my extended family. They’ve become such an unmitigated shitshow that I’d be happy just spending it with my immediate family and SO.

Agree with Belle. Same situation.

It's like trying to turn a Mad Magazine into Time Life with Norman Rockwell illustrations for two days a year.

Sounds like you just like golf more than your family or friends. And that’s even though you can play golf all year, but Thanksgiving and Christmas are only two days. So you like golf at least 35-50 times more than your family or friends according to that post.

Holidays are great if you have a good family situation. Blessed.

Played with two friends yesterday and one today.

I do play some rounds alone, and I enjoy that too.

I’m not anti-social. I just don’t like crowds anymore.

You should watch “Die Hard” a couple of times.

You’ll feel more festive.

I dig that movie.

Actually watched it with my kids recently.

There are things I enjoy about the holidays, just don’t get into the overkill aspects of the gifts, food, etc.

I don’t like it when we turn the clock back.
Maybe this is really what is at the base of what I don’t enjoy about this time of year.

Losing after work daylight is a drag.
Seems like you drive in the dark to and from work.

All the way to the white stakes sometimes.

Not as far as I would like when it is in the middle.

You sound like a miserable, selfish frick. No one probably wants you around anyway so it sounds like you’re where you’re supposed to be.

My father’s mental illness is really bad right now. I’m dreading the holidays some cause I know it is just gonna be a major trigger to his illness.

But I will try to enjoy what I can. Lower all expectations and just see what happens. Try to get into the Christmas spirit and spend time with my family. Take them to go see lights or something. Go to church and focus on celebrating the true reason for Christmas. Just keep things low key. Only giving gifts to my husband and immediate family.
