Absolutely. Driving prices skyward so that they can keep full bottles on pretentious displays and post pictures on social media.
The people driving prices up are the ones dealing on the secondary market. Their willingness to pay 2k for a $189 bottle of bourbon makes it easy for stores to jack up prices. A long time ago it was just around the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, but it has spread through the whole industry now. Luckily there has been an influx of new distillers and NPD’s that are making good whiskies at reasonable prices. Just hope some youtube whiskey idiot doesn’t say it’s the best thing ever.

I have one friend with a decent collection of Ford Mustangs. He is a good dude.
But he is the exception in that group. Mustang guys just usually have some sort of malfunction. Its like their parents didnt love them enough.

Definitely Bourbon collectors. Cutthroat and dirty game they play.

Bourbon snobs.
I was at a company outing where a guy from KY basically told us all we were drinking horse piss because we didn’t know anything about bourbon. It’s been a running joke joke for years.

I was in a Save a Lot grocery store on a location scout for a movie I was working on. I found some really sought after bourbons and got bottle for my brother. Then I posted about it on Facebook because I don’t drink bourbon, but know a lot of people who are really into it. I got literal death threats for exposing a honey hole.
When I worked at Toys r Us in the late 90s Hot Wheels guys were pretty bad. They always wanted to look at stuff before we stocked. I used to bend the cards on the treasure hunt cars on purpose just to frick those guys over.

I collected guns. Sadly I suffered a tragic boating accident.
Collected Aggies and cat’s eyes. The I lost my marbles.

I would say any people that collect this stuff and never open it.

They're very rare since they don't reproduce.

It’s been said already but I’ll say it again…
Bourbon collectors and wine snobs
They are beyond irritating because they think people actually care about their collection and knowledge and it somehow makes them better than everyone.
You usually dont get this sort of asinine cockiness with stamp, coin, toy, lego, and train nerds.

rare coins
I’ve been involved in this for decades and concur that these folks are pretty normal. The one exception is a guy at a coin shop in Old Metairie (or thereabouts) in the 1990’s. The guy was a real jerk and didn’t seem interested in doing business.
Anyway, do you have any thoughts on the U.S. Mint’s 2024 issue of a Flowing Hair commemorative? I will probably get the silver medal to gift to a brother and buy the gold one depending on the amount they produce.

Book collectors are nice to each other, but generally treat non collectors like crap.
Walk in an antique book store and they’re going to assume you were looking for Barns and Noble and be insufferable assholes unless and until they decide you’re one of them.

Funko Pop collectors - they're not even "action" figures, just cheap plastic things that barely resemble the intended character. For some reason this sent millenials haywaire a decade ago and are some seriously insufferable people.
I've never had any issues with book collectors, but there is a new trend on IG of people getting super snotty about reading hardcovers and cheap paperbacks. Who cares when its the same words?
Eta - some of the coolest folks are the guys who kept their wrestling action figures from the 80s and 90s. There's a self-awareness of how odd a hobby it is but there's very little snobbiness about it.

I thought it was the Coors/Bud/Miller drinkers who always said that any other beer was horse piss.

I had a boss that gave me two wine bottles for a Christmas bonus once.

Acoustic guitar collectors/snobs. I have a smattering and have even built one. The acousticguitarforum.com banned me. I made nothing but positive comments about guitars. Never chimed in to crap on guys guitars. The mods here are saints compared to those twats.

The sports card collecting community is loaded with scammers and drunks who bid on shite at the last minute and blame it on their son when it comes time to pay.

The absolute flipping worst of the worst.
Sipping with a pinky finger out talking about how their pallet is refined and tasting initially caramel with slight hints of toasted marshmallow followed spearmint or some such bullshite. They ask what bottle you enjoy and then lecture you on why you shouldn’t enjoy it because they know better. The fun begins when you mention Blantons to them and they completely trigger off.
