Lol... yeah NWA was great man. I especially like how they took rap and made it all about a degenerate, hedonistic lifestyle focused on killing cops, hooking up with sluts, crime, money, etc.

It really has helped the black community

Gangsta rap is the shite dawg!!

If you like your hippity hop so much why don't you listen to Ice Cube's diss track again. Ice Cube knows the truth.

NWA completely destroyed both the black and the hip hop community.

I actually liked rap when I was in my 30s.

Until I tried to go to a rap concert. Then things changed after that.

Now I recognize it for what it is: no talent arse clowns that can't play real music to save their lives. Is some of it good? Oh yeah. Is it catchy? Oh yeah. Does it take talent to make it? LOL

I'm not trying to insult, but I don't understand what took you so long and how others don't realize that it's simplistic noise.

Hip-Hop/Rap is Garbage...
Once in awhile, a catchy rhythm. That's it.

All the while jazz has become too complex for most normal listening audiences. That is a real shame.
Improvisation within rhythm-changes requires real talent & skill.

Almost all new music is garbage

This is absolute, utter bullshite. People who say this are basing their opinion on what they hear on the radio or TV. Yeah, no shite pop music sucks. But if you're willing to put the slightest amount of effort into digging a little bit, you'll find that there has never been a greater abundance of quality new music being put out

How many radio stations play new rock? I can't hear a new rock song on the radio around Nola. I have to have satellite radio for that.

I had a hip hop phase in high school. But I think it really was the high point in the genre. After that I occasionally dropped in to check it out and it was unrecognizable compared to the mid-90s.

Tupac, Warren G, Dr Dre... TLC, En Vogue, Montel Jordan (just for "This is how we do it" )

Regulators, Keep their heads ringin, etc.

I used to listen to the 9 o'clock props with Wild Wayne on Q93.3 lol. I think there was also a daily tip 10 or something as well.

I didn't discriminate either. Beastie Boys were in there too.

Truth be known, I find most music has taken a serious nose dive when it comes to originality, meaningful lyrics, melody, and structure. It's bubble gum for the masses, and what comes from business people marketing music to their target audiences instead of actual professional musicians touring to make music and sell their music, and thus becoming exceptional in the process. Playing before 30k people to sell your shite had a way of making you people to be taken seriously in music, and the product became great as a result of it.

You've heard that video killed the radio star? Well, I'd argue that the internet and dubbing killed the professional musician in popular music as it did away with the ability to actually perform without a damn studio.

Everything has overtaken rock. Try to find a new rock station on your radio sometime. They've been extinct for over 10 years.

It's telling when a DJ playing techno music can pack an auditorium but most actual musicians and bands struggle at it these days. It's just sad, and not because there isn't music being made, but just that it's not what is most popular, actual music that is. I think we've become pretty lazy in this department, and it's an indictment on our society today. I don't think you can point to another time in western civilization where creative music played by musicians was so undervalued as it is today. Even most country has become bubble gum crap.

The thing is US rap and hip-hop isn't even as good as Latin rap and hip-hop. Latinos have become superior at it.

Just like Romanian pop and dance music is superior to US pop and dance.

This is true for everything. Mass produced crap, even most "luxury" items are lipstick on a pig.

It's a disposable society.

You're right...decades of slavery, oppression, and lack of education that resulted in the black community you know today really began with NWA...
