Train tracks at the end of Frenchtown Road was the GOAT spot to drink beer and gather when no one had a house party.

Choke point with single entry/exit. EBRSO ran us off with no enforcement the few times we were cornered.

Small town ontario.... the hockey rink, of course. We also had a firepit out in the woods. Was a great time, not very smart about drinking and driving but it was a different time. No one got hurt but there were a few wrecks

The Max.

The owner was always doing magic tricks and shite. Had a hot little number that the surfer boy was always trying to get with, but also a liberal chick with an eating disorder who acted uptight but would let you bang her in a pool if you asked. She ended uo being a hooker in Las Vegas last I saw.

Grew up in rural NELA in the 70's. These were hs and basically the only hangouts, even during summers when in college.

We had a camp in the woods a couple of miles from Faye Baughman's house, and a couple of miles off the Bernice hwy. You had to drive a 4 wheel drive, or dirt bike back in there on an old logging road. We built it with plywood, 2 by 4's, and fiberglass panels we acquired from God knows where. In high school we'd stay out there and get up and squirrel hunt, or just shoot guns.

The chicken place, there's a BBQ place there now, on Hwy 33. It had pool, foosball, and pinball machines.

Hearn's Grocery, a convenience store on The Marion Hwy., had a Tempist and a Galaga arcade game. It stayed open til 10 p.m.

Lots of nights were spent hanging out in secluded locations on beautiful Lake D'Arbonne, at Folly Beach, at the spillway, at the football stadium parking lot, and in the 1st Baptist Church parking lot. I've been in fights at the chicken place, the spillway, Folly Beach, the football stadium, the baseball stadium, Herbert Green's Gulf Station. the old high school, the elementary school, and once at Brown's Sahara in Shady Grove.

The saying was:

"You're either fighting or f*cking."

Now you know the real reason country folk get married so young, and why I immediately moved to Dallas after getting a degree.. I had a 73' Buick Regal coupe, with a bench seat. Had friends with hot rods. Would sometimes switch cars with them, on a night when they had a date, and I didn't.

That’s awesome! I knew a Sara Baughman at LSU, I wonder if there’s a link.

I have relatives from Picayune, MS. McDonald’s was a big player on the social scene for my cousins. Me being from New Orleans it wasn’t what I was used to, but it was cool.
