I saw what looked like a jump pad on the ground and the bit of footage I saw had the helicopter crew talking about reports of a guy jumping.

I think he had to jump down.

Edit: maybe the huge inflated bag on the ground was just a precaution?

fire looks to be controlled now. Also, those firefighters are standing on a balcony that was just on fire. frick all that.

Building is so old that they were grandfathered into not having to provide them.

Live feed said it was built in 1961. Studio apt for $2200 a month and 2 bed/2 bath for $4500

Don't be concerned. We are trained in structure ans how it is effected by fire.
